Windows 10: Windows 10 vs. Windows 8.1 vs. Windows 7 Performance

Discus and support Windows 10 vs. Windows 8.1 vs. Windows 7 Performance in Windows 10 News to solve the problem; I am not a Windows 10 fan, it has nothing over 7 or 8/8.1 in my opinion. Cortana isn't an issue since I already have Google Voice and Edge, let's face... Discussion in 'Windows 10 News' started by Brink, Aug 9, 2015.

Windows 10 vs. Windows 8.1 vs. Windows 7 Performance

If you're a tech fan like me you want the latest version of everything, doesn't matter if it's Android, IOS, OSX or Windows, I think I'm .2 behind in Android and it's annoying .
Windows 10 is faster and more secure, I don't care what anybody says, I've got the computers to prove it, it might not be on some computers, but that's because of drivers etc.
Another thing I like is free stuff and a long time ago I learnt not to look a gift horse in the mouth.

Welcome back Windows 7 my old friend.
Just maxed out ram 3.95 out of 4GB to test will it freeze like garbage 10, no it will not, pc lags coz of used all memory but no freeze, no error.
    Goodbye Garbage 10 forever.

  3. That's good for you.

Even better, I don't like apps, as well as many others as well. The forced unremoveable XBOX APP broke SC2 for all gamers out there and has to be forcefully removed via administrative powershell command in order for it to work correctly. Not to mention all the other useless apps that are forcefully installed that are not needed that again cannot be removed unless you powershell remove them. Hopefully the idiots at Microsoft wont patch this in the future.

I will for lack of a better word, bite my tongue on this one because I have tons of things I can say to you on that subject matter. Now if you said something about XP or VISTA then OK. But bashing 7 & 8.1 users is not cool. I am not running ANCIENT HARDWARE or SOFTWARE here and that comment is not only insulting to just me, but everyone else that is having problems. (Z97 chipset and Samsung Evo SSD too ancient for you tech guy?) This is coming from a clean install of W10 with all your crAPPS and I have issues with gaming and other problems that are not even worth the hassle. You are saying (just 3 examples from me alone) GTA V, SC2, and FRUITY LOOPS 11, are ANCIENT SOFTWARE yea? I'm sorry but that comment you just made is very rude and it makes you sound like a pure arse. I am grateful that there are users here that actually try to help out and tweak to make the best of things.

Really? Because you don't seem to be very understanding to me, you just want to be close minded about W10, why it works because all you do is check emails and play apps? Get real, people have other real world applications that need to run on a computer besides news and weather. How about gaming and video editing and @mll the problems he is having?

    Your comment ticked me off.

At least this one gave me a good laugh. It was hilarious, ROFL.
If you don't care what anyone says then why are you even here?

Glad to hear you fixed your problem. I'm still messing around in 10 as I have been having some problems myself, but I have other machines so I am OK to play around on the O/S, but probably won't permanently

  5. Weird.
On my PC, I found that a clean install of W10 took slightly less time than W7 (18 minutes vs 20 minutes).
I can't remember how long W8 took to install to a VHD, but it was ~20 minutes.

    Maybe because they:
    • Have more control over their PC (no Automatic Mandatory Updates)
    • Hate the default colour scheme
    • Like a stable proven system

My W10 VM runs OK apart from a random "mouse failure" issue (sometimes it doesn't start during boot up).

Youre the one who doesn't care what other people say, you just keep on rubbishing Windows 10. You haven't paid for it, so if you don't like it remove it and move on.
Ive been listening to all this same rubbish since DOS, there are more people on Windows 10 gaming machines than any other Windows already, according to Steam.

  7. Oh really? Please state how I do not care? I have been dealing with issues and trying to help other users out as well as other pros here have been helping me out and we've been discussing and customizing back and forth and whatnot. If I didn't care what anyone else said then why are we helping each other and why are they helping me? Hell, I had 3 users post help to restore Windows Photo Viewer on W10 with @BunnyJ posting the .reg code so we didn't have to go searching around, is just one example.

I have a lot of respect for the regs on here that help out and contribute and I've even tried to help out and contribute myself. I don't need to mention names because they know who they are.

You are the one who is just sitting there idolizing W10 and calling users of 7 & 8.1 ancient and "museums" for lack of better words because software or hardware isn't working for us when it was just fine in the last 2 versions of Windows. So yea I care what other people say and I don't idolize W10, I try to analyze it, and a lot of users are having unnecessary problems with W10. Just because you don't play games or video edit or sound edit and let me guess, what you play APPS from the "store" and surf news and do nothing else, and everything works? So that makes W10 the best? Congrats, slow clap for you. If you have nothing to contribute (besides bashing 7/8.1 users) then zip it. *Wink

A lot more people on W10 gaming machines then any other Windows already according to steam? LMAO. Sorry to burst your bubble bud, but you made a mistake while reading your "articles" on your "perfect O/S". That is not the case and I can pull up multiple sources.

Windows 10 Is Already More Popular With Steam Gamers Than Mac and Linux - IGN

    Great stats bud.

Oh whats this? You mean Win 7 and Win 8.1 is still at the top of the list for steam? 45% 31% respectively? Why you say because of the glitches people have been having with Steam and Windows 10? Just like me and these other users here who signed up just to post to get help with Steam.

Solved Steam Running in low res - Windows 10 Forums

Did you even bother installing Steam on your computer? Or hmm ... let me guess you don't use it? Do you? Check the Steam forums much or have any Steam friends? Because the ones that I have are not pushing to W10 because of "compatibility issues" so we are staying behind on our ancient museum O/Ses.

I wasn't going to turn this into a flame war, but you did it by:
    a) assuming I hate W10 and calling it rubbish - when I don't, I'm annoyed like most others.
    b) stating that W10 is the best and the ones that have problems are dumb dumbs, because thats how you made it sound.

And lastly, no ... I won't remove it and move on. I'm going to sort out "your buggy O/S" until it works accordingly.

    Hope that helps,
    Cheers *Smile

8.1 is every bit as stable as 7 and more secure, lighter weight, and faster. 10 works fine, there are a few small glitches but they will be fixed soon. Most of them are in things I don't use anyway.

I might have got Mac mixed up with Windows, maybe I should have checked that out first. I can't remember even addressing you in the first place, but I've been busy doing other things, I think you just took it on yourself to feel upset because I dared to rubbish Windows 7, like I said its antiquated and if people like it fine use it, if you want to move on go to 8 or 10.

Anyway I've got to go and check my email that's all I do all day.

I think you're supposed to get all upset over those glitches, I'm sure Microsoft are just sitting on their bums doing nothing, although it's funny how we're getting all these updates.

I too think like you, the glitches will be fixed faster than they would be by Apple in my opinion.

I have no problems at all with any of my Steam games. I was unaware of any Photoviewer issue because I hate that app and never use it. I greatly prefer IrfanView and it works fine in 10. The only things I have had problems with after doing the upgrade from 8.1 were Chrome, which needed to be reinstalled and slightly blurry text which I fixed with the cleartype wizard. Oh yeah, my resolution was set to a higher resolution than my monitor supports but that was easily fixed and my sound driver needed to be reinstalled. My initial boot times were very slow but a defrag and optimization fixed that. My machine now boots and shuts down just like it did with 8.1. Gaming is perfect and maybe even better with 10 than 8.1. The updates have all gone smoothly so far. A few minor glitches but I think less than would be expected and all is well now.

  13. Windows 10 vs. Windows 8.1 vs. Windows 7 Performance

Right now 10 isn't really too far from how 7 was at it's launch prior to the first six months time and then onto SP1 which actually wasn't too noticable as seen when correcting goofs on the earlier versions. It will still need some more updates to get it going but the few bugs being run into so far besides the upgrade hassles where 10 is nothing less then buggy it is much easier to get things organized then 8 was by a long shot!

I didn't get to run 8.1 in CP or TP form but heard that saw improvements over 8 which many took notice of! MS working to clean up a mess 8 brought in as always and why I knew it would take a few more versions with one look at 8 for MS to work things out. W10 and likely the next version to follow(by way of updates with some bloggers calling 10 the last version? we'll see! ) should actually realize what MS was working on resulting in seeing a version people can stick with.

Performance wise Team Viewer is seeing more resources swallowed up as 10 is making up a Recovery Drive on another 7 system where the drive was split up to see a 7/10 dual boot with both primary partitions being the exact same size to take some addition notes. Other then the length of time it takes to get 10 all set to go with settings and all your programs I would tend to agree with Traijan about how the overall performances besides installation time and settings things taking a bit longer being almost equal to how 7 is mostly due to the WinMin mini kernel having been worked out with the large gui changes that have been seen since 7 came out.

  15. The lack of customization is the frosting/icing on the cake for me. For someone to have to write a 3rd party program to change the most basic of functions that have been there since what ... Win 2000? So for the last 15+ years and now poof ... gone? Could someone please tell me why?

Winaero - Free small and useful software for Windows

Maybe I'm running the communist version of W10 where everything has to be set the way it is and cortana will send everything back to HQ. State controlled. Customize W10? = Gulag for you.
