Windows 10 Will Not Auto Sleep

Thanks - will give that a go now, then if that fails I'm going to put a new HDD in and do a clean install of W10 to see if it's there from the start or from something I've done since installing.

By using a file compare utility and cleaning up the results I can see the attached differences between Safe Mode and Safe Mode with Networking.

Not sure if driver differences explains why auto sleep is working from the logon screen in any mode though.

    - just depends what's actually been loaded and is active at that stage I guess.
Certainly if you've a spare HDD then a clean install will eliminate some possible causes, and if you still have the same problem, will be easier to diagnose..

Windows 10 Will Not Auto Sleep

Although I didn't get to the bottom of what was causing the issue, a clean install of Windows 10 has resolved the problem for me. If as I re-introduce my apps I find the culprit I'll update the thread but for now at least I'm happy *Smile

for those, who are still having sleep issues, try to check whether you are using hybrid sleep. if yes, switch to just sleep and if it works, check your event log for volmgr error. i had this issue on my Asus H97 PRO MB. it turned out, that intel rapid storage drivers prevented windows from going to sleep due to the error of loading crash dump drivers (event id 45). i rolled back to storahci drivers and don't have this problem anymore. hope it will help somebody.

It's clearly driver related - even after a clean install, I only updated two drivers using right-click update this driver online from within driver manager and I ended up with another problem.

The PC would sleep no problem, only this time it wouldn't wake the monitor up and required a hard shutdown / restart.

I've rebuilt again and left all the drivers as per the initial install and it's rock solid. Seems that in my case, actually updating drivers was causing issues.

Hi, slightly puzzled- so are you saying the drivers above were those installed during setup, and then you updated them and the sleep problem reappeared?

I could understand the pattern, what puzzles me is how you managed to immediately update them...

(My own experience was a bit different.. I didn't get an Nvidia driver on initial installation- only got a basic MS driver. The Nvidia driver came some hours later)

Both of the drivers named are installed as part of the Windows 10 installation.

If I right click either of them, new drivers are available for both through Windows Update which caused my second issue (pc not waking the screen up from sleep). I still don't know what caused the will not sleep issue I originally posted other than a clean build fixed it.

My gut feel is they are somehow related.

Ok, so if you can determine which one causes the problem, you need to protect the working version from being updated. Since you actually have the update in your update history, you should be able to do that easily.

Windows 10 Will Not Auto Sleep

I tried all the remedies suggested for getting the display to go off after a time or after running ScreenOFF2 and keeping the display off. All without success-- the display always comes on again. Then I gave up and decided to set the computer to sleep. That worked fine except that waking it up was flakey it did not work without pressing the start button over and over. This is a DELL XPS27 all-in-one running Windows 10 and I think the XPS may have problems. Anyone have these sorts of experiences with DELL XPS?
