  1. Windows 10 Windows Update not displaying most updates

    Hello all,

I have a strange problem with one on our laptops.

About a month ago I noticed that when Windows Update would run many of the updates it found would fail installation then on subsequent runs it would not re-prompt them or attempt a reinstallation of the failed updates.

I tried many things then gave up and did a repair installation.

I then retried Windows Update where only about 7 updates installed and no more were prompted, reporting that the computer was up to date.

Of course there should be many updates applicable to this laptop but everything I have tried has failed to rectify the problem leaving this laptop very insecure.

What I have done so far, in order:

    1) Run Windows Troubleshooter in Admin mode

    2) Deleted the Software Distribution and Catroot2 folders

    3) Ran DISM and SFC

    4) Ran a Repair reinstallation of Windows

    5) Uninstalled AVG and re-enabled Defender

    6) Set a new registry value in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\QualityCompat of value cadca5fe-87d3-4b96-b7fb-a231484277cc type DWORD data 0x00000000

    7) Performed a clean boot

Nothing has shown any more than the 7 or so updates that were installed. There should be 50 or more updates available.

The laptop is a Clovertrail CPU so it is running the last supported version of Windows 10 which is 1607.

A reset is not an option as this laptop was a ex-school preinstalled laptop which has a lot of good software on it which I would lose if I did a reset.

I am out of things to try and would appreciate any suggestions to a solution to this problem.

    :)

Microsoft to make Windows 10 updates mandatory

Well, at the moment at least, you can choose to defer upgrades. Under Settings > Windows Updates > Advanced options you need to check the box labeled "Defer upgrades". What does that do? Good question. The answer I've found might illuminate it to a degree.

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-10/defer-upgrades-in-windows-10

I hear this only applies to Pro and Enterprise editions. But I can't verify that.

    Windows Update suddenly hangs?

Windows Update is suddenly hanging for some reason... I went and downloaded and installed the first bunch of updates, restarted when asked, and now when I go back to windows update I just get the window with a white box forever. Reboot and it still does it. This happens to be on my main machine, running windows 7.

I've also noticed when I reboot it says configuring windows update, step 3 of 3, 47%. Maybe it somehow skipped something and is screwed forever?
