  1. Windows 10 Wishlist?

I thought it might be nice to put together a list of features we would like Microsoft to add to Windows 10. Bonus points for ranking by likelyhood.

    Likely:
    - continue porting apps to metro - including File Explorer
    - allow metro apps to open multiple windows. One window can be designated as the primary for tablet mode and toolboxes can use a standard api to be on a moveable overlay.

...I can't really think of any others at the moment.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so i figured it out myself

    Found the logfile in "C:\Windows\Minidump".

You need the Windows Development Kit to open it and a bit of googling to understand it.

Found out that a Daemon driver caused an error. Removed Daemon but this didn't solve it. (ps: Daemon itself worked normally).

I let hibernate my computer again and found another error with sptd2.sys: SCSI Pass Through Direct layer

More google and ended up on the duplexsecure site. Downloaded the W10 version and voila: problem fixed.

For the Windows support team: It would be really helpfull if you could pass problems to a more skilled helpdesk who can do more than proposing the standard solutions in case those won't work.

    Cheers

  3. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so I also found out that this occurs when sleepmode (for me after 3 hours) changes into hibernate mode.

Seems like the going into hibernate and/or starting up from HIbernate results in a shutdown. In safeboot it works perfectly.

Anyone any idea how I can figure out where it goes wrong. Is there a way to log this (I couldn't find it in bootlog)

Allow Tablet mode when using multiple monitors.
Allow some of the default Windows Apps, that you currently can't uninstall, to be uninstalled. Or at least give the option to hide them so they don't clutter up the All Apps Menu. People, Camera, Groove Music, etc.
Allow me to name my PC (what I want) during Setup.
Ditch the verify my identity after a clean install. Knowing the correct E-mail and password for your Microsoft Account should be enough. IMHO
Let the Start Screen stay open on one monitor when I change focus to another monitor. It now closes which defeats the whole purpose of live tiles.
Let the Start Screen span multiple monitors.
All I can think of at the moment.

    Allow classic GUI shells:
    Win 2K
    XP
    Vista
    Windows 7
    Windows 8
    Windows 8.1

All with the Windows 10 kernel, and performance, and progressive development features.

FYI, Universal Apps already can open multiple windows. Edge, for instance is an example of this. But, I've seen it in others as well. It's just that the Universal GUI Standards suggest not doing so.

    Windows 10 Wishlist?

Add support for Runtime Application Self-Protection (RASP) to the general Windows runtime environment.
Make application virtualization a user (or application) selectable option for running any Windows apps, especially those that access the Internet.
Add to and improve Windows self-diagnosis capabilities.
Create an application analysis and repair framework for developers so something like DISM could be used for application diagnosis and repair.
I could go on for years....

I am going to be brutally honest on this, since I am one of those that has felt that since Microsoft has never seen how users really use computers, they keep failing by trying to reinvent the wheel.

If there was anything on a wish list that was needed, it would be Microsoft should have listened to those who run their company and make an OS that is fail proof and IT is not having to spend causing downtime when a worker is without their computer. My wife's employer has decided to eliminate their in house IT person. So if something is wrong with their laptops, they get sent out of state and that person is without a laptop for who knows how long, because the company will not issue them a replacement for the time that they have to decide where the problem is.

99% of the workforce at my wife's work have to use laptops and cannot use tablets like the Surface. Some of iPads so that they can use Salesforce when meeting with customers at their facilities or at trade shows. With them also having to still use an AS/400 interface for one program that can not be brought up to modern standards, because there are five different locations using their own version of this type of software and no one can decide how to make them become one.

Windows 7 is still a market killer, because it is able to fit the needs of the majority of users and also in the Enterprise. My dentist has gone to Windows 10 and has had nothing but issues that because of the software that they use for X-Rays, they have had to be very careful of any changes that are made or any updates that are applied.

10 will never go any farther than being a niche OS in a market that users do not want or need another tablet based OS. They want Windows to work and be able to have a real desktop that also will work with Games.

Windows 7 owns 48% of the market share still. 10 owns barely 23%. Mac OS, Linux desktop and Mobile have stuck at the same with 22% over the past year. With consumers being more mobile and not wanting tied to a power outlet or lugging around a heavy computing device, they will always choose Android or iOS for tablets, Beige Box hardware will still be adopted by those who do not want to pay up to six payments for a Macbook Air like I did to move out of dealing with hardware that was locking me into either Linux to replace 10 or stuck with 10 on it and dealing with spending more time fixing Microsoft's issues.

Stop issuing a broken version of Windows 10 and thinking now that everyone wants to be a graphic designer. It is just like how they screwed up Office.

Microsoft has been out of touch with their user base, since gates could not figure out how to let his Software Engineers code Outlook to run on what would have been the very first tablets in 2000. Also with him killing the Zune and now Microsoft has killed the Lumina, they do not have much else other than a laptop playing a tablet.

If Microsoft wants to retain consumers, they need to start moving on Windows 10 IoT, take Windows 10 Mobile and sell it to the SBC market like the PI and Cubie Truck, to allow more cheaper options for Computer on a Stick, instead of spending $400 on a device to try and create a market for them that the streaming device market has already killed in, along with users who have been able to make a better HTPC.

Tell me about it. The biggest complaint I am seeing on Microsoft's FB page is that they are royally PO'd that they can no longer choose when to update instead of having the OS take over. Part of that is because they keep delaying the updates.

  14. A Windows 10 Mobile version that will run on a Raspberry Pi SBC. I don't see it ever happening, but I'll keep asking for it anyway. Windows 10 IoT just doesn't do it for me.

Control the bandwidth that Microsoft uses to download updates.

When they pushed a large update onto my PC, it tied up my DSL connection for the better part of a day, and I couldn't get any work done for my clients.

Windows 10 seems to be imitating the push model of smartphones--but Microsoft forgot that many of our desktop PCs don't have 4G LTE bandwidth. All I have is DSL.

BitTorrent lets you specify the bandwidth allocation for each download and each upload. There should be a similar setting for Windows updates. I need to give my own clients' jobs higher priority over Windows updates.
