Windows 10: Windows 10 won't let me reset or reformat my computer. Major issues.

Are you sure your hard drive is not failing?

If you want to try UEFI mode, prepare a bootable USB flash drive like this:
Create a Bootable USB Flash Drive

Make sure at step 9 to use FAT32 (see the Important box below the step):
9. To format the partition, type format fs=fat32 quick, and then click ENTER

For step 12, mount the Windows 10 ISO file and just copy all the files and folders from the mounted ISO file to the USB flash drive. You should now (typo) be able to boot the USB flash drive in UEFI mode (and it will also work on legacy BIOS systems too).

When you get to the screen with the list of partitions on the drive, do like you did before, but this time add one command:

diskpart
select disk 0
clean
convert gpt
exit
exit

Then refresh, select the unallocated space and click next.

That should give you a UEFI install. But it does sound like you might have a HDD failure going on.

 

I'm currently using the windows media creation tool and downloading a bootable usb drive for my laptop. This would be sufficient right and UEFI mode should work?

Don't think its my ssd. Cause I managed to boot into the desktop, mess around with the files and folders. Its just each time I reboot it goes into the dell supportassit and shows no bootable devices. I then went to disk management and made my C drive the active one (with the os, boot, etc.)) I will try your method after trying the windows media tool.

 

Yes, allowing the Media Creation Tool to create the USB flash drive for you will give you a flash drive that is bootable both in UEFI mode and legacy BIOS mode. It's just a little bit slower than the manual method. Plan on it taking 1/2 hour to 45 minutes.

UEFI booting does not require a partition to be set as active. For the internal HDD/SSD it does require a FAT32 primary partition set as the EFI System partition type. To boot from a USB flash drive, UEFI requires the flash drive to be formatted in FAT32, but does not have to be set to the EFI System partition type. When you try the install again make sure to redo the commands and add the addition convert gpt command:

diskpart
select disk 0
clean
convert gpt
exit
exit

 

Thank you very much dude. I got my laptop back. The problem was NFTS. Ah wish I found out earlier lol. Oh well I managed to back up my files using the notepad in cmd. Looks the problem was my boot partition got corrupted when I restarted. Hopefully this doesn't happen again. Not liking windows 10 much to be honest, but anyways I appreciate the help. Thank you again!

 

Glad it worked for you! Rufus has caused a lot of headaches for a lot of people. The first question I ask any more when someone says, "I tried to use a USB flash drive to install Windows with UEFI, but...." is "I'll bet you used Rufus to create it, didn't you?"
