This worker for me: go to lock screen. Click on ease of access icon at the bottom right corner. It should be your middle icon. Now click on the "on screen keyboard to enable. Once enabled use your mouse to click in your pass word, click enter, and your in! Info came from Microsoft online support, via chat. Hope it works for you as well as it did for me!

@Mzdi, it's great! After opening the on-screen keyboard, it's easy to determine if the keyboard layout language on the login screen is what you expected or not.

Had the same problem, turns out my computer was automatically turning on the Num Lock on my keyboard on the login screen (and not letting me turn it off) and so none of my passwords were actually typing in correctly. Noticed that when I clicked on the little eye icon after typing my password in.

So if this is the case for you either reset your password to something which doesn't use any of the letters affected by the Num Lock or do what user Mzdi said *Smile

So happy I was able to login... I switched from Microsoft Live to Local user and disabled the password requirement for logging into my PC now.

How do you get to the lock screen. Windows 10 won't accept my password after upgrading from 8.1

  6. If all else fails and you want to recover your data, boot from a LINUX live CD,DO NOT install, just run as a live CD, might be called a trial.....then copy all data off PC / laptop.....at least all the data can be recovered...

Hi there! So, I have just recently purchased a brand-new HP Notebook with Windows 10 already configured to be the primary Windows. I bought it for my mother who still has a Toshiba from years and years ago. So, I just gave it to her about 3 hours ago or so and we are ALREADY having issues. It wouldn't let her sign in. I have tried every method that was suggested on this thread and not even going to contact M/S tech support because of the such bad reviews on their tech. And, one user on here had said that their was no answer to resolve the issue. My mother has just now been able to log in but now it seems that someone is remotely tapping the screen and opening things. It's a touch screen HP, by the way. And, we seriously just opened it up like 3 hours ago. And, I know she hasn't even gone to any fraudulent website. So, I'm really just appalled by the issues we are already having. We are doing a factor reset and I will be returning this laptop! I am SO disappointed. She was so excited to have gotten a new laptop but it's of no use with these issues we are having. Appalled.

Seems like it has a fault on it
Yes return it to where you brought it from and either ask for your money back or another one in exchange.
Also why not get her another Toshiba as I have one not touch screen but I find them very reliable and trouble free.
In my family we have 4 of them all running windows 10 and have had no problems at all.

    Mzdi used the wrong terminology.
He/she meant the sign in screen.
In the sign in screen, at bottom right, there are 3 icons. The one on the left is Connect to Internet, the one at the middle is Ease of Access, the one at the right is Power.
You use he middle icon.............. Ease of Access.

I had same issues as everyone else but my power options and ease of access options were blank as well. I was able to get to the recovery screen by pressing the hardware reset button in the middle of the Windows boot sequence. I know it's probably not the best, but it allowed me to restore Windows to a previous restore point.

I also ran into the same problem. I could still log in to my hotmail account online via Microsoft's webpage, but Windows 10 kept saying the password is incorrect. At last I followed this tutorial to make a boot USB disk and it successfully switched my MS account to a local account, so I could log in with blank password. I will never switch to Microsoft account login for ever.

I don't have solution but have more info that may help others.

I have a Microsoft account that works to let me log in to either Microsoft sites or OneNote on my iphone.

Systems/accounts says I have a local account for which I'm an administrator. I don't know what password is or even if there is one. When I look via the Control Panel under my user account, it says the same thing. I know the password to log into my user account. So is the user account = local account?

I have two email addresses associated with the local account. One of those is also associated with the Microsoft account

The window provides a link to sign in with the microsoft account. No combination of user id's, emails or passwords will log me in.

I keep seeing mysterious messages about outlook.com. They seem to suggest I MUST create an outlook.com email address, but there is no explanation. At least one person I know was not able to get into Windows apps until she created an outlook.com account, but I am not willing to do this unless I know WHY?

A week or so ago I found a site in which several people said they'd heard there is a bug connected to login problems which Microsoft has failed to fix. Have no idea whether it is a bug or whether there is just inadequate instructions/explanation about whether or not an outlook.com account is required.

I've spent hours on line and exchanging emails with Microsoft. All I get are useless links. No answers to my questions.

So.... Are there two or three accounts (local vs Microsoft or user vs local vs Microsoft)? Are we REQUIRED to create an outlook.com account to access windows 10 apps? Is there any way to get an intelligent answer from Microsoft? Probably other questions arise but I'm too tired of all this mess to think clearly at the moment.

I sure hope someone has some information about this.

Windows 10 won't let me sign in

The issue may be with your shift keys not being recognized. Try using Caps Lock for capital letters, and the alt+(number) shortcut for any special characters.
For example if your password is P@ssword:
    1) hit Caps Lock, type "P", then hit Caps Lock again
    2) hold alt and hit "64" then release alt
    3)type "ssword"
You should then have P@ssword there in the PW field.
After I switched to Win10, I had Issues logging in. At first I tried resetting my PW, creating a new admin account, and restarting multiple times until I could finally log in. Turned out my PC was just not recognizing my shift keys on the log in screen. I still have this issue sometimes, but as soon as I see that it didn't accept my PW I just use this work around and I get right in no problem.
    God Bless!

Here's a link of alt codes for those special characters in your PW's.: Alt Codes List of Alt Key Codes Symbols

I have a Toshiba now running windows 10, and it wouldn't recognize my shift keys when I tried logging in. The only solution I found was using the caps lock, and Alt+(number) keyboard shortcuts to input my password. This way I kept all my info that was on the hard drive, and didn't have to start over from scratch. It was quite a bit frustrating, but I was glad I got to keep all my highly technical school notes. *Smile

You can also use the on-screen keyboard to type the password. There is a small "Ease of Access" icon at the bottom right corner of the login screen. Click that icon and select "On-screen keyboard".
