    Windows 10 Won't Update

    Hi,

I am stuck in Windows Version 1809 on my PC. Automatic updates have failed. When I update manually it downloads OK and gets to Pending Restart. When I restart it says my system is up to date, but when I check the version it is still 1809.

    Things I have tried:-

    1. Run Update Troubleshooter. It says there is an issue with WaasMedicService, which it has resolved. No other issues.

    2. Run SFC and DISM - no issues found.

    3. Stopped net services and renamed SoftwareDistribution and Catroot2 folders to .old. Restarted net services.

    4. Used msconfig to disable all except Microsoft services. When I hit OK after doing this msconfig hangs and I can only get out of the loop by powering down my machine.

    5. Created an ISO file on a memory stick and tried to update from that. The update loads and gets to the point where windows is restarting, then I get the message "windows update failed".

    6. Started Windows in Safe Mode with Networking and tried to run the ISO file. Got an error message saying updating was not possible in Safe mode.

    7. Restored Windows to a previous version, but this made no difference to my update problem.

I should point out that I also ran a full virus scan on my system and then disabled my AV software Bitdefender.

I have run out of ideas.

    Regards,

    Alan

    :)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
