Why can't they retire the CP? MS can do whatever they so desire. It's their OS. Not sure, but I suspect the delay in transferring over is not really for the users. I would guess it's for third-party companies to to have time to write their applets in WinRT for the new WinRT Settings app. It is a Modern WinRT feature of the OS. New tech development takes time. It's not an overnight matter.

  2. might be dumb question

Is there any reason why 3rd party apps need to have items in the control panel?

Can they not just have the settings in the app (eg quicktime) or create there own settings app if its a utility for other things(flash)

Outside of the "Program and Features" to remove a program I can't see any connection at all. But if the "Program and Features" finds it's way to the Settings then there is no issue.. IMO,

Well most of them that are already in use and need control panel might refuse to work properly if it's not there.

Take Realtek audio drivers for instance, controls are in there, Revo uninstaller too.

Open Settings, click on System, then Apps and Features,
Far more informative than Control Panel, and so easy to remove Progs.
