Windows 10’s tabbed-based Sets interface not expected anytime soon

Back in 2017, Microsoft offered the first preview of Windows 10’s Sets feature, but the feature didn’t make its way to the operating system. It appears that it might take a while before a similar tabbed-based interface is offered with a Windows 10 update.

When Microsoft introduced Windows 10’s Sets interface, the company that a tabbed experience improve user productivity by allowing users to access multiple apps and service in one space.

“The concept behind this experience is to make sure that everything related to your task: relevant webpages, research documents, necessary files and applications, is connected and available to you in one click. As Office, Windows and Edge become more integrated to create a seamless experience, so you can get back to what’s important and be productive, recapturing that moment, saving time – we believe that’s the true value of Sets,” the company stated in a blog post.

A tweet by Microsoft employee has now raised speculation that software giant has delayed the Sets feature and a similar functionality may not arrive anytime soon.

Turner said that the “Shell-provided tab experience is no more,” but he also said that Microsoft is still interested in adding tabs. Microsoft may not have entirely given up on the idea of tabbed interface and the company might bring tabs to certain apps like Console or the entire OS in future.

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK
