  1. Windows 11 Event ID 131

I know this is a problem with Windows 10 since December 2023. I have two computers, both on Window 11, having this same issue. The computer freezes up when looking for updates. The first computer that started experiencing issues was still Windows 10. It started mid-January. The computer was upgraded to Windows 11 but still froze. I took it to a friend's computer shop. He could not find anything wrong with it. We were good for about two weeks, and it started again. I have paused updates, and that is the only way to stop the freezing so far.The other computer started this week. It has

  2. Metadata staging failed, for Event ID:131

You didn't understand me, I'm using Windows 10 Professional 64bit, on which I have VMware Workstation installed Windows 11 Event ID 131 :) (Forget I mentioned VMware, my OS is Windows 10 Pro 64bit)

Anyway, your way didn't work and the errors keep getting logged in the Event Viewer

Do you have any other suggestions on how to fix this error (Metadata staging failed, for Event ID:131) ?

  3. DeviceSetupManager Errors (Event IDs 131, 200, 201 & 202)

    Hello erhanercan

    Welcome to the Microsoft community.

The screenshots you provided show logs from Event Viewer in Windows and show various warnings and errors from DeviceSetupManager with Event IDs 131, 200, 201 and 202. It looks like you encountered these errors after an update and tried several troubleshooting steps, including a clean install and cloud reset, but the errors persist.

The warnings and error messages you see generally indicate internet connectivity issues, as well as problems connecting to Windows services required for updates and metadata services. Event ID 131 with result code 0x80072EFE specifically indicates connection failure to Windows Update servers.

Although these events may seem related, if they are isolated events they may not affect your system's performance. However, if they occur frequently, they may be a symptom of underlying problems with your system's ability to receive and process updates, which can affect the system's security and performance over time.

Here are a few additional steps you can consider:

Check System Date and Time: Make sure your system's date and time are set correctly, as incorrect settings can cause problems with Windows Update.

Network Troubleshooter: Run the built-in Windows Network Troubleshooter to detect and try to fix network-related problems.

Windows Update Troubleshooter: Use this tool specially designed to troubleshoot Windows Update related issues.

Check for Malware: Run a thorough antivirus scan. Malware can sometimes interfere with system processes and cause such errors.

Check Proxy and VPN Settings: If you are using a proxy server or VPN, try disabling it and connecting directly to see if the problem persists.

Review Additional Logs: Look for relevant errors in Event Viewer that may provide more context or information about the underlying cause.

I recommend you try the officially recommended tools to create a boot disk and do a fresh installation. Don't forget to save important information before the new installation. Download Windows 11 (microsoft.com)

If there is anything unclear or I cannot understand your problem, please feel free to let me know.

    Regards,

  4. Windows 11 Event ID 131

Event ID 131 Metadata errors happening lately.

2 days later and several shutdown and bootups...Im still seeing just one Event ID 131 DeviceSetupManager error. I expect that this error will also disappear on its own soon but I haven't got a clue why this happens. I went from 16 of these errors a week ago. Then it went down to 11 errors...and now just one. All this without any input whatsoever from me. Event viewer application logs show that when these errors are triggered it seems to be just a timing issue, probably caused by Microsoft Servers because straight afterwards the event is actioned. Very strange!
