  1. Windows 11 reset - deleting User Files

I'm preparing for a reset of my Windows 11 laptop. It was upgraded from Windows 10 some time ago.The operating system is on drive C and personal file eg My Documents, Downloads, Pictires are on drive D.When I reset am I correct that all files on drive D will be retained and all files on Drive C will be re moved except User Files.I have lots of user files from various apps that I will not wish to re-use.After reseting could I delete all remaining User files before reinstalling my required apps to free up more drive C space?ThanksMark

    :)

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

    • Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
    • Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
    • Click on Users, select your User name
    • Go to desktop folder
Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.

Cannot access my User Account on local machine but can access Admin account. Need help finding password but NOT reset it as it will delete saved data.

    Hi,

I understand your concern and will assist you to resolve this issue.

If you reset the local account password it will not delete the Saved data.

I suggest you to back up the saved data and files from the admin account and try to reset the password and check if it helps.

Follow the steps below to reset the password.

    • Press Windows + R.

    • Type netplwiz and press enter.

    • Select the user account.

    • Click on Reset Password.

Hope this helps. If the issue remains unresolved, please get back to us and we would be happy to help.

Windows 11 reset - deleting User Files

    Deleting Hiberfil & Pagefile

You would have to move your Page File to a different drive to get rid of that file, however you can make is smaller by adjusting the size in Windows.

To get rid of Hyberfile.sys you need to disable hibernation by doing the following:

    • Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
    • In the search results list, right-click Command Prompt, and then click Run as Administrator.
    • When you are prompted by User Account Control, click Continue.
    • At the command prompt, type powercfg.exe /hibernate off, and then press ENTER.
    • Type exit and then press ENTER to close the Command Prompt window
Then you can delete the hyberfile.sys file.
