Windows 11 Volume Mixer not remembering sound level for System Sounds. I usually set the 'System Sounds' volume level to 5% because I find them annoying but they reset itself to 100% after a restart or randomly while using the PC. I've seen other reports of this exact same issue on this forum and on Reddit and the responses are always the same generic answers like "install latest drivers", "roll back to previous driver", "run SFC /SCANNOW", etc.Since the launch date of Windows 11 I've been experiencing this problem on three different systems with totally different hardware configurations. In my

  2. Windows 11 Volume Mixer not remembering sound levels..

Anybody know how to fix this?

I have to turn System Sounds down really low (about 10%) because of the way my system is set up with other volume levels. Otherwise system sounds are really, really, loud. It literally hurts my ears, and rattles my speakers!

So, I'll set the System Sounds to maybe 8-9% in Volume Mixer and it's fine, but the next day when I switch on my PC it's back to 100% again.

Then some days it might not revert to 100%, but other days it does.

I don't know why, maybe it's when I change sound devices or something, but it's really annoying, and painful, and may well be damaging my speakers.

So, does anybody know how to get Windows to permanently remember sound volume settings?

  3. Volume mixer system sounds doesn't work right

After the Windows 10 upgrade, I have the same issue. With volume mixer opened, the system sound level is as adjusted. When volume mixer is closed the sound goes up to an annoying high level. (By example: User account control warning). The system sound volume
setting is kept in the mixer, but when closed it is not interpreted by the system.

I have Realtek High Definition Audio installed, and udated the driver to the latest available version 6.0.1.7571, but this has no effect.

    Hi joeo sullivan,

    Welcome to the Microsoft Community.

It sounds like your Windows 11 Volume Mixer not remembering sound levels. Sorry to hear this. To understand your situation better and provide you with a more accurate solution, what brand and edit of your Windows 11?

Normally this is caused by the tampered system files or outdated graphics driver. The solutions below can be tried to fix this.

    1. Scan and repair corrupted system files.

Search and open Windows PowerShell (Admin) from the Windows Search and run the following commands respectively in sequence:

    SFC /SCANNOW

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

    DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /RestoreHealth

Allow the process to finish and see if it solves any problems. Restart the device later.

    2. Update the audio driver.

Press Windows + X and open the Device Manager > Expand the Sound, video and game controllers > Right-click on your Realtek audio and select Properties > Click Uninstall > After that, visit the brand manufacturer's official website and download the latest version of the driver and install it.

The above steps are provided based on the information we have learned so far. I await your update to assist you further if the problem is still there.
