Windows 10: Windows 1809 update stuck at 85%

Windows tried to update my system last night. It ran OK until it got to 81% and then it just stayed there, so I ended up shutting off the machine and restarted and it rolled me back to what I had before.


I looked in the Event Viewer and I found this...


The wrUrlFlt service failed to start due to the following error:
A required certificate is not within its validity period when verifying against the current system clock or the timestamp in the signed file.


I searched the internet for that file and I found that it was part of Webroot, my anti-virus.


I don't know if that entry is related to the failure. Would that stop windows from finishing the install? I was thinking of uninstalling Webroot the next time it tries to update me. Can I uninstall Webroot and then turn on Windows Defender? Or should I just uninstall Webroot and restart the system without turning Windows Defender on?


I have already run the windows update troubleshooter. It said it wanted to delete the previously download files. I said OK and then it said that it fixed something.


I also ran DISM and SFC and DISM said it completed successfully and SFC said it found no problems.


I also checked the Device Manager and there are no flagged devices and Dell says that all my drivers are uptodate.


The attempted install must have uninstalled the Dell Support Assistant because it was there yesterday and today I noticed it was gone. No longer installed.

Since 03/03/16 Windows 10 tries to update on startup. Stuck at 85%.

Since 3 days ago my windows 10 has been stuck in an endless update loop and requires a System Restore with a recovery USB to even start up.

It tries to update on reboot and gets stuck at 85%. I have tried SFC /scannow.

I believe this update is the issue and I have also tried some of the steps outlined in this Reddit thread to no avail.

When in win10:

• Update&security -> Windows update -> Finding update... .... .... ....

Planning to download the latest Win10.ISO (vers.1803) and manually update:
- Then wait that my ordered new SSD arrives and clone the old HDD to it.

 

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.


Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
