Excellent news! Not sure exactly what happened with the key and home/pro - probably because the BIOS holds a Home key from Dell, and your Pro key is needed to upgrade. I am going to guess, it went something like this:
Upgrade Windows 10 Home to Windows 10 Pro - Windows 10 Forums

At any rate, the sfc /scannow @restore point or two as you load software onto the thing, and make some images of the entire HDD while you're at it.

Well, It's behaving nicely now. Nothing funny happening. But that is a good idea considering all the oddities during the steps I took - do a few restore points here and there and definitely do some images. As I said earlier, I thought I would give myself the day off - I've only installed my AV and Malware Bytes. I did an image after that point. Think I'll just make a restore point now too.
You guys have some terrific advice, and I will be heeding it.
