Windows 10: Windows 7 Startup sound plays when booting into Windows 10

So I upgraded an older PC of mine that was on Windows 7 Professional to Windows 10 Pro and everything went smoothly. Everything has been fine and I just now rebooted the pc with my headphones in and I heard the Windows 7 Startup sound.. when it booted into 10? I don't know why it does this, although I did search it up and on the forms here it wasn't properly answered. I'm fine with it playing the sound but I'd like to know how to disable it just in case I want to in the future.

I was having a slow boot issue on my Windows 7 install a little while back. It would take about 30 - 40 extra seconds to boot up for whatever reason.

I would try following these steps, while this didn't solve my issue, it did increase Read/Write to where it should be.

In the end, I had to reinstall my Windows 7 entirely to fix the booting issue. It was taking around 35 seconds to boot, and after the fresh install it takes about 7 seconds to boot.

 

Logoff, Logon, shutdown, restart, startup sounds not playing


I'm running Threshold 2 of Win10. It seems the Startup Sound is working again. Previously, even checked it would only play intermittently on a warm boot, not a cold one. Now it seems to work all the time. There is a 3rd party app that lets you change the Startup Sound to whatever you want, without you having to go through the hack steps.

The Exit Windows sound is another matter. Even enabled via the Registry and reappearing in the Sound list, selecting a sound for that does not make it play at shutdown.

If so, I suggest you to try the below steps and check if it helps.

Make sure that your device speakers are working fine before performing the troubleshooting steps.

  Right click on the Volume icon on the Task bar.

  Select Sounds option from the list.
  
• 
  Select Sounds tab.
  
• 
  Check mark on Play Windows Startup sound option.
  
• 
  Under Program Events: click on any option and under Sounds: select Windows Startup from the list.

  Click on Browser button and select a
  Sound.
  
• 
  Try to restart the computer and check if it helps.
