  1. Windows 7 to Windows 10

I use windows 7 with like 4 gigs of ram. It's an old pc, rather sluggish now. Freezes when I game and have chrome open.

If I upgrade to windows 10 will it fix any of this or just make it worse?

    Thanks.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so i figured it out myself

    Found the logfile in "C:\Windows\Minidump".

You need the Windows Development Kit to open it and a bit of googling to understand it.

Found out that a Daemon driver caused an error. Removed Daemon but this didn't solve it. (ps: Daemon itself worked normally).

I let hibernate my computer again and found another error with sptd2.sys: SCSI Pass Through Direct layer

More google and ended up on the duplexsecure site. Downloaded the W10 version and voila: problem fixed.

For the Windows support team: It would be really helpfull if you could pass problems to a more skilled helpdesk who can do more than proposing the standard solutions in case those won't work.

    Cheers

  3. Windows 10 Unexpected shutdown on start up

OK, so I also found out that this occurs when sleepmode (for me after 3 hours) changes into hibernate mode.

Seems like the going into hibernate and/or starting up from HIbernate results in a shutdown. In safeboot it works perfectly.

Anyone any idea how I can figure out where it goes wrong. Is there a way to log this (I couldn't find it in bootlog)

    Windows 7 to Windows 10

It would be much easier to answer your question if you give your system specs, as the processor and graphics systems which run Windows 7 may not be compatible with Windows 10. Please add your specs to your profile and post back.

Having said that, if your system is compatible, then you will notice that Windows 10 will usually run faster after you have moved to windows 10.

You may find that you will not gain any great benefits until you have clean installed Windows 10, as an upgrade may carry over some of the baggage your Windows 7 system is suffering from. In particular, 3rd party utilities and antivirus etc., may cause problems.

If you have enough disk space, consider creating a new partition greater than 30 GB and use the following tutorial for a side by side Windows 10 dual boot to the new partition. Clean Install Windows 10 Directly without having to Upgrade First - Windows 10 Forums
You will be able to install directly from the iso you have downloaded without using a usb or burning a DVD from within Windows 7.
Use the genuineticket.xml to activate after installation, skipping the product key prompts.
    Windows 10 - Clean Install - Windows 10 Forums
In step 12, select the new partition to install to.

Remember to use disk imaging to make a full backup to which you can revert should things go wrong before proceeding.
Aomei Backupper or Macrium reflect (more complex interface, no incremental imaging) both free + external storage + boot medium.

You should use disk imaging periodically as a matter of course.
