Windows 8.1 Start Screen vs. Windows 10 Start Menu

AFAIK you can have only the Start Menu or the Start Screen at any one time. I'd like to be able to use either one on the fly, without having to log out and back in again. Right now I prefer the Start Menu, but still see value in the Start Screen. Let's have both at the same time, within the same login session...

Like that is a big surprise. . .*Huh Some like change and others like to use a consistent tool/product. And I don't see anything wrong with that but we here about this all the time and it does get a bit old, IMO.. but YMMV as usual.

  4. Windows 8.1 Start Screen vs. Windows 10 Start Menu

Give it a month and I see this all changing again

Start Menu for the desktop, and bigger Start Menu on the desktop for touch

Goodbye to the Start Screen as we know it now

  5. You can count me out if they do that. I'll stick with 8.1. I don't need or want a Start Menu.

  6. Ditto.

It doesn't take a genius to work out what's need in Windows 10 - Windows 8 with Windows 7 Start Menu or Windows 8 with Stardock Start8.

Personally, I'll probably stick with Windows 7 but find Windows 8 with Start8 a good compromise. However, I don't like the increased security restrictions with Windows 8/10.

  7. You can count me out if they do that. I'll stick with 8.1. I don't need or want a Start Menu. Same for me, if both the menu styles are desktop based then count me out also

The changes to Onedrive have killed off a lot of my enthusiasm for getting 10, change the Start Screen to be desktop based and the chances of me getting 10 will be slim

Looks like I am not the only one that will stay with the 8.1 screen. I really do not like this new menu. But those who like both, you can toggle.

And they will have to keep the screen because the menu is unfit for tablets and phones.

Yeah, but if they do ditch the Start Screen for touch devices we might see this hideous thing!

(Continuum in full screen on desktop)albeit half baked so far))

I hope they are not serious with that. Must be a spammers mock-up.

I don't know if it's gonna come to pass, but that's not a mock up, that's WTP Start Menu in 'Continuum' Mode on my desktop!
(can't remember how to switch it, I'm over on W8.1 right now)

Attachment 9613 Edwin, that's from your leaked build I take it. Is Continuum a Modern Store app then by you stating "full screen"?

Would you please show it minimized? And what happens if you press on things?
