1 I like the new start menu
2 It is more secure than Win8.1
3 It's the future of Windows and the upgrades are coming to it and not Win8.1

Other than that it's all subject things that I just like.. and it's new.

In my opinion Windows 8.1 Pro does everything that I need from an OS. It is also faster, at least on my PC, than every build of Windows 10 that I've tried. Also, I'm not ready to give up Media Center and I like having the Control Panel. That being said, I will keep my Windows 8.1 Pro install and do the Windows 10 upgrade over my Windows 7 install. I've had my Windows 7 install since Windows 7 was first released and it has become bloated with time. I could do a clean install of Windows 7, but figure I would rather do that with Windows 10, as it is the OS of the future.

Caution @LittleJay that may not work especially if you have windows 7 on the same drive as windows 8.1 pro. I am having issue doing that with 7. I am hoping Gabe will issue another iso release or another build to the fast ring before rtm so I can do my further testing, I should of keep my older build. Upgrade really messes up either the windows 10 or 7 boot sector depending on how you restore it. So it could mess up your 8.1 pro install.

Thanks for the info groze. But it won't be a problem, as I have W7, W8.1 Pro and W10 build 10158 all on separate drives. And when I installed each OS I made sure to unplug the other disks from the system, so the boot loader would be contained strictly on the installation disk.

  5. That is exactly what I do and have done so you won't have any issues whatsoever. I am either keeping my Win 7 and giving up my 8.1 Pro or visa versa depending how I like or dislike Win 10 RTM.

I've even had Win81/WIn10 on the same SSD and had no issues. Dual booting is not an issue.. at least for me and others.

I have done dual boots in the past, but now, keeping each OS on a separate disk works very well for me. Especially when I want to try out a Linux Distro.

I've used everything and can tell you the strengths of 10 outweigh everything i've used before it. 8.1 was fine. 10 is really like an 8.5.

The whole universal apps are what got me on board this ship years ago. The idea behind having 1 os and ecosystem to manage is what brought me in.

Aside from greater efficiency, I wanted a system that allowed me to do my work and play when I want to. MS offered this in their 2 in 1's and Surface, although a rough and rocky start, has become a billion dollar business because people and businesses realized they want this capability too and it wasn't until recently that hardware and software allowed this and while it took forever, they finally pulled it off.

1 store for apps, music, everything that will work across all my devices. I have the same apps on my phone and tablet that will work on my pc and yes I use them on the pc believe it or not. The recent addition of Onedrive as a locker gave me the ability to stream my music anywhere to any device and offers me an integrated source for all my documents with 2 factor authentication and pretty soon will allow me to log in on all my devices with Windows Hello. Gone are the days of worrying about borking my system as everything is up and running in minutes on my Surface from a fresh build with all my files and apps synced to Onedrive.

When someone comes along and bashes the cloud, touch centric capabilities, market share or the app state, take a look at what you're doing. Are these features hindering your work flow?

If these use cases are unimportant to you, don't use it that way. You can still use your programs and none of the added featureswill hinder your ability to use it as you did before, but don't come along and ruin it for us that do want to use it the way it was designed. So, forgive me when I express my passion on the direction MS is headed and what it allows me to do.

As long as you've got a Windows CD do a boot repair or just install Linux, to bring up the other ones.
