  1. Windows 8 Installation over Windows 10

A couple months ago, I purchased a cheap laptop to take some courses online during the pandemic. I only payed a hundred dollars, so I didn't expect anything fancy and thought I knew what I was getting into with this computer and its operating software, since I had used Windows 10 before on a family member's laptop.

This laptop only has 30 GB total storage on it, and as I'm sure everyone who uses Windows 10 knows, Windows 10 sucks up storage space like a crackhead snorting a line. At the time, a lack of crazy storage didn't mean much to me, after all I'd just needed it to be able to run Google Chrome and Microsoft Word, however once I finished my courses, and it became more of a personal laptop whilst I waited for the pandemic to end, the lack of useable storage has become a major issue.

I recently reset my computer in order to deal with this lack of storage space, assuming that something I downloaded had something to it that was sponging my storage. I had 8 gigabytes of space free on my drive once I'd done this, and I thought I was squared away for a while. This was five days ago.

I woke up this morning, and I found that I had less than a gig remaining. I had downloaded nothing, installed nothing, and quite literally only used my internet browser over these last five days. I checked my storage, maybe I had an app in the background that was doing stuff?

Reserved Files: All of my storage. What the hell?

I've decided that I should change operating systems, since Windows 10 has just been eating my storage and demanding more. After browsing this site for a while and finding that many, many others are having this issue, I've decided I should switch to Windows 8/8.1, I haven't decided, it depends on which is easiest to switch.

Now, I know where to download the softwhere and how to set up a thumb drive to install it, but I'm not sure if the key that came with the laptop and its Windows 10 will be compatible with 8, or whether I need to buy 8 and a new key. Would Windows 8 be able to run on my computer without me buying a new product key, or do I need to buy a new key and shill out more money for this headache?

    :)

Installing Windows 10 using Windows 7 key

Nope, you need to install Windows 10 first and make sure the Windows 7 key is transferred to your Windows account after you've installed Windows 10 (not quite sure how that works). I missed the last step and I could not activate Windows 10 after a re-install... Microsoft seem to have done everything they can to make it a PITA. Also, it's technically too late to do this now anyhow, as the upgrade offer has expired. But KMSPico works quite well...

As for getting rid of Windows, delete the Windows folder.
