Why does windows become unstable when you leave applications opened all the time?

Is there something that can be done?

In my experience, I've learned to close everything daily, resulting in snappy-fast responses the following day. I very much dislike, arriving to a sluggish computer, due to applications left opened over night. For sure, there are many times where I have left things opened and all was ok, but more often than not, you get poor performance when leaving applications opened on a windows box.

My boss, likes to leave anywhere from 10-25 Excel spreadsheets, 20-50 Outlook emails opened, same timing, along with a host of other applications; web browsing pages 10-50; acrobat PDF documents.

His system specs are out of this world; Xeon processing, 32GB of ram, SSD hard drive.

I try explaining, there's no solution for when his system becomes unstable; I see this occurring with anyone who is operating their system this way. I've adapted to something that works for me; the boss refuses to adapt as I have.

Is there a solution? Is there something I've missed?

We run most up to date versions of windows and MS-office; we run updates manually so windows isn't auto updating, introducing issues.

    :)
