Windows 10: Windows app download stuck at around 90% - wont move - stuck at "restoring user data"

I subscribed to the Xbox game pass today and was overwhelmingly excited to finally get to play Forza Horizon 4. I installed the 74gb file over the course of the afternoon, but when i went to go and check on its status, the bar was stuck at around 90% and the loading message said "restoring personal data".


I thought id leave it but another hour or so later - no change. Still "restoring". I thought maybe its just Forza? So i downloaded another smaller game (Where The Water Tastes Like Wine) from the game pass catalog only to run into the same problem.


"Okay" I thought; maybe its a store or network issue. To my knowledge, its not a network issue as I have trialed this on 3 networks now.


I looked around online and a couple of others have the same problem and its very annoying. One person a few years ago did say that he was having this issue with one app he was trying to install and his solution was that he "deleted the apps references" in "regedit". Apparently this worked for him and 2 others! I don't know how to do this and don't want to mistakenly damage my PC.


PLEASE HELP ME because I have gone through all the troubleshooting steps and the issue still persists.

Windows Store Apps stuck in 'restoring user data' and do not download

wsreset.exe worked for me.

It did not work immediately, the app still showed as stuck when I opened the store and I was unable to open it or remove it. But restarting my Surface, running wsreset.exe again, then restarting again, then I went to the app's store page and reinstalled
it and it worked amazing. Here are those steps again in order:

• App gets stuck "restoring user data"
• Restart computer
• Run wsreset.exe
• Restart computer
• Go to app page in the Windows Store, "Install" should now be available. Click "Install" and it works.

I realize that this is a very late reply, but since this issue STILL affects users and this particular thread is way up there in the search results, I'm posting a solution anyway. This won't fix the inherent problem, but at least it might let you download
and install Store apps:

Create a local account and login with it. This'll allow you to download and install apps without getting stuck on "Restoring user data". When you're done, login with your Microsoft Account again.

 

Windows 10 Mobile Store Stuck on "Restoring user data"


I am trying to re-install a Windows Store app (AccuWeather) after rebuilding my Windows 10 Mobile on a Lumia 950XL. The app appeared to download correctly in the Store installation queue, but the install appears to be stuck in the "Restoring user data" state. Does anyone have any advice for this problem? Thank you.
