Windows Apps not showing Profile Picture

Something very minor but I noticed a select number of UWP apps are not showing my profile picture (Microsoft Store, Weather and Maps apps). Logging out/in of my account in those apps or restarting Windows does not fix the issue. Anyone else having this at the moment with Windows 20H2?

    :)

Windows 10 Photos App: Missing / Not Showing All Pictures

    Hi Jim,

It's possible that some missing or corrupted system files are affecting the performance of the Photos app. As initial troubleshooting, run the

    Windows apps troubleshooter
    .

Additionally, we suggest performing a clean boot to find out if this behavior is caused by a third-party
program. This will load Windows with minimal drivers and programs, preventing software conflicts from occurring. If the Photos app shows the missing pictures and folders in a clean boot environment, check the section How to determine what is causing
the problem by performing a clean boot
    for what to do next.

Note: To return your computer back to normal, check the section How to reset the computer to start normally after clean boot troubleshooting.

We'd also recommend creating a new user profile to check if this is caused by a corrupted user profile. You may find the steps for doing that through this link.

Furthermore, check if resetting the Photos app solves the problem by following these steps:

    • Click Start.
    • Go to Settings.
    • Click System.
    • Click Apps & Features.
    • Choose Photos from the list.
    • Click Advanced options.
    • Click Reset twice.
    • Restart your computer.

Let us know if the Photos app shows the missing pictures after following these steps.

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done Windows Apps not showing Profile Picture :) I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

contact pictures not showing in mail app

The next troubleshooting step we suggest is to uninstall and reinstall the Mail app. Here are the steps:

    • Click the Start button.

    • Type Windows Powershell.

    • Right-click Windows Powershell and click
      Run as
      Administrator.

    • Type Get-AppxPackage *windowscommunicationsapps* | Remove-AppxPackage

    • Press Enter.

Note: The Mail app and the Calendar app are tied together, so the Calendar app will get uninstalled as well.

After uninstalling the Mail app, restart your computer. You can then reinstall it by following these steps:

    • Click the Start button.

    • Type Windows Powershell.

    • Right-click Windows Powershell and click
      Run as Administrator.

    • Type Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers| Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml”}

    • Press Enter.

When choosing a contact photo, the Photos app would show the pictures under the "Collection" tab by default. You can click the last icon, which would bring you to the "Folders"
tab. You can then browse the folders in your computer for the picture you want.

Let us know if the contact photos appear in the Mail app after reinstalling it.
