Windows 10: Windows Backup - 4TB of "Other Files"

When I try to backup my computer (Windows Version 1903), after a short time the space (even though it's 5TB) fills up and says no more room. When I checked the backup drive, 4TB are taken by "Other Files." Can anyone inform me what "Other Files" are and how to avoid that happening with subsequent backups? Thank you for any assistance you may provide.

Using network hard drive for backup

It depends what sort of backup you want to do. If you're happy just backing up regular files, then there are a bazillion (really, that many!) different bits of freeware to do that. There is a good list here:

and pretty much all of them can do network backups. Some even have fancy options like encryption. Really, the most useful thing is just being able to schedule them and know they ran OK.

You may also want to make a system image backup too, and you'll find that software in the very same list.

I don't have Windows 8 as yet, so I'm afraid I can't suggest any for that platform. Personally, I use Clonezilla for image backups.

 

Windows Backup can't find my seagate 4TB drive

So I bought a Seagate external hdd drive 4TB a while ago and want to use it as a backup but my windows can't find it in the backup finder. I can find it in windows explorer though and I can drag files into it. It's just that it is not there when I want
to make a backup and I want to backup my 2TB internal drive B: to that 4TB drive D: . The backup finder only finds my 2TB internal drive which is the one with all the files on it that need to be backed up.

I was going by other advice and articles that suggest that backing up under Update and security/backup is now the way to go. I will try your suggestion.
