    Windows Backup not seeing drives...

My HP X 360 Envy has an SD drive for C: (boot drive); and a 1TB D: drive (split into 2 drives, one being a Recovery, not visible).

I went into Windows Settings, and selected Backup, then clicked on Add Drive, wanting in this instance to backup the D: Drive to a server in the house. The problem is, it only sees the Recovery Drive, which it shows as "Removable Disk (F)", which it is not a removable drive.

Doesn't see the C: drive; Doesn't see the D: Drive. All this based on Windows Backup.

Now, I also have Macrium Backup (Free version). I see the drives with it fine. But when I try to back up the D: drive to the server, it always fails. The server drive I backup up to is a Storage Space. So I don't know if that failure is due to that server, the 3rd party software or this PC. It fails with a message "Backup aborted! - Write operation failed - There is not enough space on the disk." I am guessing that the backup is needing to span across more than one drive, and isn't able too (I though a Storage Space facilitated that).

I'd be fine to set file backup via Windows to handle the D: Drive, but the above issues are preventing that. I would expect the Windows 10 backup to work, or at least see the drives.

    Any thoughts or suggestions?

    :)

  2. Windows 10 not seeing some external drives

After upgrading to Windows 10 Pro, windows sees my two Seagate Expansion external USB 3.0 Drives. Windows does not see my two Seagate Backup Plus external USB 3.0 drives until I unplug then plug either the USB cable or power cable. Everything worked
fine in Window 7 Pro. The four are plugged into a 4 port PCI USB 3.0 Card. At a loss as to why now not being seen.

  3. Windows 10 not seeing some external drives

I am using a VANTEC Quad Chip 4-Port Dedicated 5Gbps USB 3.0 PCIe Host Card Model UGT-PCE430-4C in my computer. I have the 4 external Seagate drives plugged into it. Under windows 7, it had no issues of seeing all 4 drives when I booted up. After
the upgrade to windows 10, on bootup, windows does not see the Seagate Backup Plus drives until I unplug them and replug them either power or USB cable.

I did as you suggested and the only thing it saw was I had disabled automatically install new drivers. I changed that.

Still on reboot, windows does not see the Backup Plus drives .

    EDIT:

OK I did a Repair on the drivers for the USB card, did a reboot, and now the drives show up. I will do some additional Reboots later to see if the issue is resolved.

  4. Windows Backup not seeing drives...

    Hi 56Kruiser

The Add drive option is the target drive so in this case it would be your network drive on your server.

Select Drive for File History in Windows 10

While this says Backup this is "File History" which indeed does make copies of data files. You have to ensure the files you want backed up are included. As an example by default it does not backup the hidden appdata folder or its sub folders which may contain data you want (Firefox profiles)
