  1. Windows backup skipped some music mp3 files

I have a combination of music MP3s either ripped from CD or downloaded from a legitimate source. I've also worked with the tag sets on all of the music. It's not unusual for thumbnails to be in the directory with the MP3s. For the most part each album is a folder and the tree is not deep. The path and filename length is not very long, almost exclusively under 80 characters. The exception to the `each album` are a couple of folders with singles from various artists and they are not part of the problem.

I backed up my system to move it to new system. After it was restored in the new system I noticed about 5% of the album/directories only had the thumbnail artwork, no music files. One album was only missing one track. The missing files/mp3s were on the source disk when I double checked.

Can Backup and Restore be trusted?

Does B&R attempt to determine if I have rights to the music?

Some missing music was ripped files, others were downloaded from a subscription service of a major music industry vendor not iTunes.

    :)

Napster to Sell Music as MP3 Files

Napster Inc. said Sunday it will begin selling music downloads as unprotected MP3 files in the spring, joining other online retailers. The file format change will apply only to single tracks and album purchases, according to a company press release. Tracks downloaded as part of the company's music subscription service will continue to have copyright restrictions. Unlike music files that come with copy protections embedded, MP3 files are compatible with most portable music devices, including Apple Inc.'s market-leading iPod media players, Microsoft Corp.'s Zune and mobile phones that play music. "The ubiquity and cross-platform compatibility of MP3s should create a more level playing field for music services and hardware providers and result in greater ease of use and broader adoption of digital music," Chris Gorog, Napster's chairman and chief executive, said in a statement. The company did not say which record companies had agreed to license music for sale as MP3s via Napster.

The Backup completed but some files were skipped

    Hi,

Thank you for using Windows 10.

We regret for the inconvenience. I would like to inform you that if you are trying to backup a file which is on the drive where the backup is being created, it will skip those files.

You may check in libraries if your personal files which you have already uninstalled are present there. If it’s there, you may delete those files & try to run the backup again.

You may also try the following steps and check if that helps:

    • Restore default storage locations on all folders (i.e. Pictures, Documents, Downloads, Favorites, Searches etc...)
    • Rename the folder in explorer to match the default folder.
    • Restore the default libraries and run the back up.

Let us know the updated status and we'll be happy to assist.
