Maybe the SD Errors are due to TRIM on the SSD ? , if it isn't enabled it could be leaving "garbage" behind , though that maybe a separate issue , to the powerup issues you are having...

forgot to ask if you are using Samsung Magician? in Rapid Mode or with OP , perhaps it is causing issues? worth a bit of research , I use the 850 EVO but don't use the Samsung Software , so not all that familiar with it but a Friend was using it on a laptop which had issues ,which stopped once I removed it and reinstalled Windows.

I will try to look at your posts daily and reply, I leave for work early and get home late.

    1. Next time the PC has issues booting I will look for error code.
    2. I have the following USB devices attached
    a. Weston Digital external drive: USB3
    b. Logitech Nano Receiver: USB3
    c. USB3 cable for connecting/charging phone. Nothing connected when booting.
    d. Logik Hub: USB2. I have removed for the time being.
    3. 3 No. results for CHKDSK for the new SSD attached.

There are known USB boot problems on X99 , so I am not sure if your issues are one thing or you have several none related issues. attached is a ASUS Q-Codes PDF I made from online posts elsewhere.

There are SD Errors in the new CHKDSK Reports too......

Did you check if Trim is working ?

In Magician is installed turn off Rapid mode if used? and uninstall it

Try Bios 2101 again , use USBFLASHBACK rather than EzFlash

Thanks Kbird, will look at over the next couple of days.

As a bit of a novice on what happens behind the scenes in the operating system. Can you explain what are SD errors are where they are on the CHKDSK log. Do you have a link to a site that explains CHKDSK that I can read up on.

    Thanks

I saw a report yesterday of someone with boot issues etc on one the ASUS Forum's I'm on ,after He tried 3301 on his X99a , he said he had no issues on 2101 too , so I am wondering if the new Bios's for Broadwell E are no longer 100% good for Haswell E chips like we have too.

Not OCing are you? did I ask that ? if so put everything back to Auto , Optimised Defaults when you go back to 2101 and see how it goes 1st.

I keep looking at your system specs to check *Smile but it is actually

    System: Self build
    OS: Windows 10 Pro
    Mother Board: Asus X99-A/USB 3.1
    CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor
Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB DDR4-2666
Graphics Card: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 4GB
    PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA NEX 750W
Hard Drive: Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256GB

Your system is very close to my X99 system , I'd have the 3.1 too if it hadn't died and killed the CPU too.

    Windows Boot up Issue

Almost missed the 2nd part.... I am no expert either I just know that the SD Errors shouldn't be there and have seen reports that it is sometimes caused by TRIM no working correctly on the SSD and leaving "garbage" behind.

SD=Security Descriptor it is cleaning them up each time which is why it says it found no issues at the bottom

from one of your chkdsk files...........

Stage 3: Examining security descriptors ...
Cleaning up 777 unused index entries from index $SII of file 0x9.
Cleaning up 777 unused index entries from index $SDH of file 0x9.
Cleaning up 777 unused security descriptors.
    Security descriptor verification completed.
38034 data files processed. CHKDSK is verifying Usn Journal...
    35825744 USN bytes processed.

CHKDSK doesn't actually fix the SD Errors apparently , just claims them back , but not sure why they are there...

On my board everything after Bios 2101 is for the new CPUs. I am still running 2101 and have never tried the newer bios versions. Are you using the original X99 board or a second generation X99? I am just curious. The 2nd generation boards were built to accommodate the changes made in the new CPUs. Sure they said they would work on the 58-59 series chips, but.....

I have an original 2011-3 board and a 5930K and have had none of the problems mentioned in this thread. Maybe I am just lucky. (knock on wood). It just strikes me that if you are seeing the loading screen, the BIOS has finished POST and it is all on the OS and HDD. Not that I think I know everything, just trying to understand what is happening.

    Windows Boot up Issue

I built my rig in Feb. 2015 and haven't had any problems. I know I have a different board than you guys, but it should work the same being the same chipset. I just have more crap on my board that I don't need or use. *Smile
@KevinUK, could you do as @Kbird suggested and go into bios and set optimized defaults (F5)? While you are in there could you go into the monitor section and give me the readings for CPU Temp, MB Temp and the +12V, +5V and +3.3V? Also, have you had a BSOD on your board? If you don't mind, please run the BSOD Posting Instructions and post the zip file here? Even if you haven't had a BSOD it can give us a lot of info about your OS such as drivers and such. Maybe we will see something that doesn't look right.

Also, could you go to control panel, Uninstall a program and give us a list of your installed programs to look at?

If I ask you to do anything you have already done, please excuse me. I have scanned over the whole thread, but I may have missed a few things.

Thanks for that information on the CHKDSK, much appreciated.
Currently I have removed the Logik Hub: USB2 and monitoring the system.

The answers to a couple of questions.
I am not OC in any way.
Rapid mode is not enabled in Magician
Is trim not turned on in Windows 10 automatically? I will look into this at the week end.
I will see how the system operates if I have to remove the USB devices one by one before trying BIOS 2101

    Hi essenbe

Thank you for the feed back, as I have little time in the week, I shall look into your posts at the week end. I have no blue screen of death (BSOD?)

    Thanks guys

If you will open an administrative command prompt and run fsutil behavior query disabledeletenotify it will tell you about Trim. If it says

NTFS DisableDeleteNotify = 1 (Windows TRIM commands are disabled)
NTFS DisableDeleteNotify = 0 (Windows TRIM commands are enabled)

That will mean that windows is sending trim commands to the SSD Controller. Yes, Windows should do that automatically, but it never hurts to check.
