Windows 10: Windows Calculator app does not launch/ Closes immediately when launched.

I really hope that you can provide a possible solution to my problem. I'm an employee working for an MNC and supporting internal users.

One of my user has a problem with Windows calculator app. The Windows Calculator app does not launch/ Closes immediately when launched. Similar issue was observed on calculator HD+ app after installing it.


These are the following T/S steps I have performed so far.


OS - Windows 10 1903 (OS Build 18362.295) Enterprise Edition ( upgraded from version 1809 )


-> Reset the calculator app and it did not work

-> Tried to uninstall the app manually, and then reinstall via Windows store however the issue persists.


-> Also Tried it from Power shell using Get-Appxpackage -Allusers | Select Name, PackageFullName and then Get-AppxPackage *windowscalculator* | Remove-AppxPackage


-> Ran SFC/ scannow

-> Ran DISM scan online

-> Further tried to update windows to the latest version 1903 - issue still persists.

I, however, did not create a local user account since The machine is on Domain network.

Is there any registry fix or any hotfix that I can try?

What do you guys recommend?

Window's 10 Calculator won't launch

Hi Dan,

There could be a number of factors as to why you are having issues launching the Calculator app on Windows 10. This could be caused by a software conflict or due to the application itself.

You may consider resetting the Calculator app. To do this, refer to the steps below:

• Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & feature.
  
• Click the Calculator app from the list and then choose Advanced options.
  
• Click Reset.

If the issue persists, I suggest that you create a new user account. This is for us to check if the issue is due to a corrupted user profile. To do this, select the Start button, then select
Settings > Accounts > Family & other people > Add someone else to this PC.

Calculator launches with blank blue display?


I've been running Win10 for almost a year. In the last week or so, my Calculator app has started a weird behavior. Usually when I launch it (from the Run dialog), it displays the app window -- but it's all blue with a white calculator icon in the center. Basically it's what displays BEFORE the app paints all the calculator keys / display / etc.

If I immediately launch it again, it displays properly. I can keep launching and every one displays properly. Then if I come back and launch it a few hours later, it displays the blue window.

!??

From the above description, I understand the Calculator app on Windows 10 is not performing accordingly on your PC.



Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

• 
  Do you get any error message/error code when the app fails to launch?
  
• 
  Do you remember making any system changes prior to the issue?
  

You may be facing the above issue due to some of the corrupted app files & folders or missing app files on your PC. Sometimes running a simple troubleshooter will resolve this issue.



Method 1: Since Calculator is one of the Windows Store apps, I suggest you to run the
Windows apps troubleshooter and check if the issue
is resolved if you haven’t tried the method before.



In many cases, the Windows Store will automatically notify you if there’s a problem with an app and try to fix the problem. If you continue experiencing problems with an app, this tool can automatically identify and fix some problems with apps and
the Store.



Method 2: If the issue persists, run
SFC scan and DISM scan on your PC by following the steps below and check if the issue is resolved.



SFC scan is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. If a
Windows Resource Protection (WRP) file is missing or is corrupted, Windows may not behave as expected. For example, some Windows functions may not work, or Windows may crash.



Windows corruption errors may prevent Windows updates and service packs from installing. For example, an update might not install if a system file is damaged. The
DISM scan or System Update Readiness tool may help you to fix some Windows corruption errors.



Step 1: Open an Administrator command prompt
window by

• 
  Press Windows logo + X keys on the keyboard and select
  Command Prompt (Admin) option.
  
• 
  Click on Yes and continue. Provide administrator password if prompted.
  
• 
  Check if it says Administrator: Command Prompt at the top of the command prompt window.
  

Step 2: Type the following commands in the
CMD Prompt:



dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

sfc /scannow



Step 3: Close the command window and check if the issue is resolved.



Method 3: If the issue persists,
I suggest you to create another administrator user account by referring to
Set up accounts on Windows 10 article and check if similar
issue persists.



The corrupted user profile does not function normally such as not launching
Start menu, Cortana, Search bar, Store and other
Windows applications. In such cases creating a new profile and checking for the same will help in identifying if the is specific to corrupted user profile or the OS.
