Windows 10: Windows cannot find 26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683

Hi. I recently found that I had a bad stick of RAM in my computer and now for some reason I getting some weird errors like 26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683 when I try to access things in Control Panel, not having anything in File Explorer Ribbon, and not having any sound along with being unable to turn the auto service on. I think the problem is due to a registry error but I'm not sure how to fix it. I've tried running CCleaner but there was no change and running chkdsk which doesn't seem to produce any errors.

OS = Win10 1607, error message when invoking Control Panel ::{26EE0668-A00A-44D7-9371-BEB064C98683}\0 The remote procedure call failed.

I have found some similar errors but with same code but slightly different text.

one suggestion was to check the Remote Procedure Call status and RPC Locator. Both of these services were correct, i.e. the first set to auto the second to manual.

the next step was to run the system file checker which I did and got no errors.

there were no further steps suggested.

If there is an easy fix then that would be great as I would like to preserve the Office install as I cannot locate the license key.
