Windows 10: Windows cannot find ‘C\Program Files x86Microsoft Office

Hi,

I am getting an error for which I cannot find a solution

All the following programs are giving me the same alert box message

Word

Excel

Powerpoint

Pdf

Alert “Windows cannot find ‘C\Program Files x86Microsoft Office \root\office16\ Name of the program I want to open and

Make sure you typed the name correctly and try again

None of my saved documents from any folder are opening and all popping up a similar alert

Even if I download a word doc from an email or other platforms it is showing me the same alert

I need some guidance please because I think I exhausted many of the online recommendations available

Windows cannot find 'C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\winword.exe.

I do have a licensed copy of MS Office 2016... maybe I should give up on 2013 (I had initially installed 2013 to allow for compatibility with MS Project 2013) and see if installing MS Office 2016 will allow me to actually USE MS Office. That is my goal.

I am beginning to suspect that your problem does not lie with MS Office but with the Windows file system. If so then installing Office 2016 might or might not solve your problem.

What happens when you do this while working in an elevated console session (cmd.exe):

Copy the file C:\Windows\write.exe to the folder

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15

Run the file

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\write.exe

from the Command Prompt.

Run the file

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15\root\office15\write.exe

from File Explorer

Click Run From My Computer to install the converter to your hard disk.
Click Update Now.
Open a Quattro Pro file
To open a Quattro Pro file in Excel, follow these steps:

Click Open on the File menu.
In the Look in list, click the drive or folder that contains the file you want to open, and then locate the folder that contains the file.
In the Files of type list, click Quattro Pro 1.0/5.0 (Win) (*.wb1) if your files are from Quattro Pro for Windows versions 1.0 through 5.0, or click Quattro Pro/DOS Files (*.wq1). The former requires installation of the converter, as outlined above, before it appears in the list.
Double-click the file you want to open.
Notes

You cannot save files in the Quattro Pro 1.0/5.0 (Win) (*.wb1) format. If you open one of these files and make changes to it, you can save changes by saving as a Microsoft Excel Workbook (*.xls) or in another spreadsheet format.
You can save changes in the Quattro Pro/DOS format, but changes made using features that are unique to Excel may be lost.

You can open a file created in another program, such as Lotus 1-2-3 or Quattro Pro, in Microsoft Excel the same way you would open an Excel file.
