Windows 10: Windows causing laptop to boot up with a 1080 section in the top left corner of my 4k screen

This happens every time I update windows. see attached video

Boots up..flashes a 1080 top left corner, then it flashes off to show a black screen.

I have to reset back to an earlier restore point.

A couple of times, I've had to completely re-install Windows 10 and wipe everything except my personal files.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!!!!

I've stopped updating at this point.

Windows Snip on 4k Monitor vs Laptop Screen

I have a 1080p laptop, but 100% use it with an external 4k monitor.

When I attempt to print screen (Snipping Tool) the capture size defaults to the 1920 x 1080 from the laptop and ignores the 4k screen. This means much is left off the clip, and the resolution is terrible.

In practice this means that as print screen is pressed the 4k screen is shrunk to a 1080 version on the larger screen (ie, appears in the top left quarter), but this shrinking makes it impossible to get a clip with enough accuracy and DPI to make it legible.

Any suggestions?

clean boot to find out if this behavior is caused by a third-party program. This will load Windows with minimal drivers and programs, preventing software conflicts from occurring. If the duplicate screen stops occurring in a clean boot environment, check
