  1. Windows changed my admin Microsoft not local account to my protected minor son's account.

This is by far the worst system fault I have ever experienced with windows. It's just unbelievable. I used to have my admin account, set up with a microsoft account, and once I needed to access microsoft website, not even a native app, with my sons account, and suddenly my Microsoft account turned to his, his email was desplayed below my account name and I was all locked up for fixing anything. Ironically My own/son's account was still an administrator type.

I had to remove my familly's accounts, create me a new one and now I've just lost important documents. This is the time I've hated Microsoft the most, I just can't beleave this is even possible. How can a propetary operating system with thousands of developers and engineers can't avoid these kind of issues...

    :)

Windows 10 changed my Admin account to local

I have been using Windows 10 for months with only minor issues. I log in today and try to make a change and was unable to do so. I rebooted and when I logged in, it said I had a local account. Between yesterday and today, somehow my admin account was changed to local by windows. I am unable to fix this problem because I can't login as admin now. When I go to user accounts in control panel, it says my account name and below it, Local Account AND below that, Guest account. Any ideas?

  3. Windows 10 - My local admin account is wrongly linked to my son's microsoft account (No sign in with local account instead link available)

    Hi,

I have windows 10 installed and used a local admin account. I recently add my son who's 10 years old on to my account. For some reason, now my local admin account is now associated with my son's microsoft account.

So, all of my local files and the users folder is under my name, but everything is now associated and reported agasint my son's microsoft account. There's no option under "Email & Accounts" now to sign in again with a local account. Worst is that all of
the restrictions is now being applied on my local admin account. Furthermore, whatever i do on my local machine is now being tracked as my son's activity. In short, my 10 year old son's limited account credentials got
merged with the administrator login and no option to remove or change settings.

This issue has been reported since 2018 and i am creating this problem on 28th April, 2020 and the issue still hasn't been fixed.

My local admin account has now automatically become a microsoft account associated with my son's microsoft account!!! Only way to fix this is to backup all my local files and re-install the whole windows 10 OS. Am hoping there's a workaround solution to
    this.

Windows changed my admin Microsoft not local account to my protected minor son's account.

My admin account switched to a user account!

The first of the many diagrams in this thread show that the link Sign in with a local account instead is displayed for the account that is currently logged on and so the reversion procedure might work for this account. For normal circumstances, that would initiate the conversion back to a local account for the user account currently logged in - see my 23rd & 26th September 2016 posts in revert to local account from one converted to MSAccount. I have no way of knowing how Windows will react to an attempt to use this procedure for the Built-In Admin account and I do not know if that link Sign in with a local account instead will be displayed or not.

I think I side-stepped this issue by suggesting that that
    • An extra password-protected Admin level account is created, and
    • The Built-In Admin is disabled, and
    • The recovery attempt focuses on whichever existing user account remains active afterwards.

Personally, I would reinstall Windows 10 without even attempting this recovery. Installation takes very little effort once everything is backed up and the only necessary user interactions are right at the start & right at the end so it can be initiated before making a pot of tea. It took about 30, 60 & 90 minutes for each of my computers [the 30 minuter is 6 months old, the 60 minuter is 7 years old, 90 minuter is 12 years old].

Raner - I am trying to avoid sounding like I am nagging you into doing a clean install.
    • Once you have recovered the existing user account you can attempt to re-enable & remove the MSAccount link from your Built-In Admin if that link appears in Settings, Accounts.
    • Bree says it cannot be done and I think the same but I have never tried - I have never been able to get to Settings using the Built-In Admin because it cannot run any Windows 10 Apps so I do not know how it can be done [but the diagrams in Bree's link shows that those users got there].
    • Even though I have the safety of having created two spare password-protected Admin accounts I would not want to know that my Built-In Admin was sitting in the background but unable to help me if my other accounts were corrupted.
