Windows CMD does not see Desktop when I move it around

on windows 10 1809, I prefer to have my Desktop folder on D:, same thing for important folders like Documents and Pictures. So I go with the file explorer to my user profile, then right click on those special folder and I locate then on D:\

However, when I use CMD with a command like,
    %USERPROFILE%\Desktop
I get "the specified path does not exist"

In CMD, I get , first when I use default path, ie those special folders have the default location,

    C:\Users\aaa>dir

    Répertoire de C:\Users\aaa

    03/04/2019 06:12 <DIR> .
    03/04/2019 06:12 <DIR> ..
    01/04/2019 18:19 <SYMLINKD> .OffRoad [D:\.OffRoad]
    28/03/2019 18:20 <DIR> 3D Objects
    28/03/2019 18:20 <DIR> Contacts

then when I move Desktop to D:,

    C:\Users\aaa>dir
    Répertoire de C:\Users\aaa

    03/04/2019 06:17 <DIR> .

However, in the File explorer, I still see the Desktop, documents and all and they all point to my folders on D:\

  4. Windows CMD does not see Desktop when I move it around

    New Apps not showing anywhere

    Hi Simon,

I would suggest you add create a shortcut to these programs in the Desktop till we fix this issue. You can right click on the frequently used programs and select 'Send to Desktop' to create a shortcut for that program in Desktop. To troubleshoot this issue,
I would suggest you to try the following steps and check:

    • Open an Administrator CMD window. If you can’t find a way, use these steps:
    • Press CTRL+Shift+ESC to open Task Manager.
    • Click File > Run New Task
    • Make sure you have a check mark beside “Create this task with administrative privileges”
    • Type CMD
    • Type the following commands at the CMD prompt:

      dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

      sfc /scannnow
Try these steps and let us know the results.
