Windows 10: Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration

A week ago I reset my PC using the option in the Settings app and when it finished my Windows wasn't booting. I created a installation media using the media creation tool but at the end of the installation, a message appears saying "Windows could not update the computer's boot configuration". I tried to remove all the partitions in my disk using the clean command on DiskPart and also disable UEFI and Secure Boot but neither worked.When looking to the setupact.log I found this line:CallBack_MungeBootEntries:Failed to modify boot entries; GLE = 31Trying to install: Windows 11 Pro EducationModel:

Windows 8 failure configuring updates and reverting

I agree 8 is awful! It's not for me though... I replaced a broken screen in a Win 8 laptop that was given to me and I am going to give it for free to someone that can't afford one so they can do homework at home. Yes I took it from 8 to 8.1 back on 10/09/2014. This is what I posted there...

1. Step 1 should read to disable AUTOMATIC updates, not disable manual updates.

2. KB2871398 should really read KB2871389

I would like to say that KB2917499 may also be needed as it was in my case. I also had to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter after installing those 2 updates. After these steps I was able to begin my 8.1 download from the Microsoft store. I don't know if it made a difference or not, but I also went into the Bios and disabled "Secure Boot."

Windows Installation Error (Unable to update boot configuration)

Hi Haroon,

Thank you for responding.

As you are not able to boot the device this issue might have occurred due to corrupted bootable system files.

As you have stated you already have a Windows 10 Education 64 bit ISO file, use the file, try to boot the device and re-build the BCD and check if it helps.

If you already have the ISO file, skip Step 1.

Step 1: I suggest you to create an installation media for
Windows 10 using the media creation tool:

Step 2: After preparing the installation media, insert it hard reboot the device and follow the below:

• Boot into Windows Recovery Environment using the Windows 10 installation media.
• Click on Repair your computer.
  
• Click on Troubleshoot and in the Advanced options.
• Select Command Prompt. Type the following commands into the prompt and press Enter key after each command.

• 
  bootrec /fixmbr
  
• 
  bootrec /fixboot
  
• 
  bootrec /scanos
  
• 
  bootrec /rebuildbcd
  

5. Restart the computer and check with the status of this issue.

NOTE: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting
from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.
