    Windows Defaulting to on-board mic

Hi! I have an ASUS laptop running the latest Windows 10 update. My problem is that for no reason, Windows defaults to my laptop's microphone, instead of my headset one. I have verified that my laptop supports TRRS 3.5mm headphones, and I can temporarily fix the issue so it uses my headset microphone. My temp fix is:

    1. Open Realtek HD Audio Manager

    2. Right click the connector in the software, and go to "Connector Retasking..."

    3. Then I can choose the jack to be headphone in by default there is nothing checked

    4. I unplug my headset and wait for it to recognize that I have done so, and plug it back in.

Again, this is a temporary fix. Anytime I restart or boot up my laptop, it defaults to the on board mic. I have the box checked to ask what device I plugged in, but it never triggers.

Also, there isn't anything in my audio devices that is recognized as a headset microphone.

Just the "Realtek High Definition Audio"

All drivers are up to date, and I haven't been able to find a permanent fix for this issue.

    :)

    USB Mic Problems.

The next step is what I suggested originally. Try it in a friend's PC or take it to Best Buy and ask them to try it one of their PC's. Have to confirm the mic is working OK.

How to use Logitech H51 headphone as the default mic?

    Hi Michael,

Your laptop's default mic is the currently enabled device, preventing you from using your headphone's mic. To use your headphone's mic, you need to enable it. To do so, kindly follow these steps:

    • On the Sound properties (the current open windows of the screenshot that you gave), go to Recordings.
    • Right-click your headphone's mic.
    • Click Enable.

If you couldn't find your headphone's mic on the list, it must be hidden. To unhide it, right-click on your currently enabled mic and click
    Show Disabled Devices.

Let us know how things go.

    Regards.

If you think this was useful, you may "mark it as an answer" to help those who are facing the same problem.

    Mic issue with Realtek

    Hi,

I would suggest you to first check if the MIC is set as the default device. Right click on the volume bar in the notification area and then click on 'recording' devices. In the recording tab, right click in the MIC and click 'Set as Default' and then check. If
the issue still persists, I would suggest run the Audio troubleshooter and check. Press Windows key +X and then click on 'Control panel'. Click on 'Troubleshooting' and then click on the 'Audio troubleshooter' Try these steps and let us know the results.
