Windows 10: Windows Defender Antivirus Antimalware Platform - Update Issues

Using Windows 10 I have found it difficult recently to instal the normal definitions and the associated "Windows Defender Antivirus Antimalware Platform" KB 4052623 by the automatic method. I have four Windows 10 machines and eventually got them all to accept the updates. I did at one stage think about installing KB 4052623 via Windows upsate catalogue. Attempting this, shows 3 files to choose from ? How is a "normal" user expected to know which one to choose. i expect there is a simple explanation and there again perhaps there isn't. Can anyone advise please ? I'm becoming increasingly disillusioned with Windows in general but would find the alternatives worse for other reasons.

It's listed under Definition Updates....

The easiest way to check is to open Windows Security, go to Settings and click the About link.

 

Defender antimalware client update

In Windows 10 version 1709, os build 16299.192, checking for updates shows a new update for the Windows Defender antimalware platform, to version 4.12.17007.18011







Installed without a problem, no restart required. Defender before updating...





After the update...





As with previous antimalware client updates, the update doesn't show in Update History. It can be seen in Reliability History.






Edit: 1st March - another update has been issued, version 4.12.17007.18022. Seems this is to be a regular monthly event.
