    Windows Defender not responding

    Hello,

Im unable to see any Windows Defender settings.

Tray icon does not respond to anything.

There is no option to check any file with Windows Defender that is how I found out that something is wrong.

If I navigate into Control Panels>Update&Security>Windows Security>Open Windwos Security i see this: Windows Defender not responding 4a3dc7ab-085f-42c2-a479-bb173e0d9659?upload=true.jpg

I tried to start computer with minimal startup - no effect.
I tried to check for Windows Update, but the search for Update never ends.
I tried doing "sfc /scannow", few corupted files were found and repaired but with no effect on Windows Defender.

I have no standalone anti-virus software currently active.

    Please help.

    Have a nice day,
    P.K.

    :)

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond Windows Defender not responding :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.

      Run command.
    • Type services.msc and press
      Enter
      .
    • Search for Windows Defender, right click on it and
      start the service.
    • Also, set the Startup type to
