    Windows Defender or Avast Free

I currently have Avast free on Windows 10, defender is turned off.
Has defender improved so I can remove 3rd party and go with defender.
I am a low end user, I am on a lot but not doing anything that would be considered going to risky sites.

    :)

  2. Definition Update for Windows Defender - KB2267602 (Definition 1.213.5087.0) - Error 0x80070643

The fix that worked for me was to install Avast (free version) and then uninstall Avast. Windows Defender update errors stopped. Why?

  4. Windows Defender or Avast Free

I'm much like you, and try to be prudent in my web activities. Myself and numerous others here are using Defender. For me it's Windows Firewall, Defender, Malwarebytes & AdwCleaner. So far this combination has served me well, and I don't recall anyone reporting any disasters running similar protection.

It's a personal thing for each individual.

    Good luck...

I use just Defender. I don't pirate music, movies, games or software. If I look at adult type things, I use my Mac. Never had a problem.

  6. Recently Switched to using Defender myself, Malwarebytes, Adwcleaner at times, So far found nothing. And I'm online every day, all day long, don't visit risky sites, pirate music, games or software, usually just visit the same usual sites, like tenforums, neowin.net, dslreports, local news sites, haven't updated my user profile for the forums yet while I make sure I actually like staying with defender, but so far been about 10 days on Defender, and no issues to report

  10. Same here for 3 years and Defender is set default. Others AV (free or not) is too intrusive, they slow down the computer, the Internet connection and are not easy to remove.

I do a clean install frequently and to get rid of the web pollution, I'm using in Firefox X64 Ublock origin, Disconnect and Ghostery. I'm surfing the web safely and run quick scan few times a week.

Go ahead switch to Defender (Win Ten best friend) and see if you run the latest definition there (we get 5-6 updates every day):

  13. Windows Defender or Avast Free

I also switched my desktop and laptop from Avast! Free to Windows Defender a few weeks ago as well. No more annoying pop-ups and it just works. I also have MalwareBytes Anti-Malware free and I run it once a week manually just to be on the safe side.

Even though I have a high end system, I've found that Avast is intrusive and bloated recently. It adds a layer between you and the internet which I don't like.

I just use Malwarebytes Premium and Defender now.

  15. Been using Avast for last 10 years, but about to give up on using it as does add a layer, and intrusive I noticed more so now than earlier years

Can't afford Malwarebytes Premium, so hopefully even with Malwarebytes Free i'm safe with Defender and Malwarebytes 3 Free--that is what nervous about if I can i'm safe enough with this new setup
