Windows 10: Windows Defender real-time won't turn on after failed update on 8.1

Update on windows update failed, now windows defender's real-time protection won't turn on, I have no other antivirus, haven't had it for the longest time and defender worked the whole time. I tried to reset windows update and run the updates again, which worked and they installed without problems but it didn't solve the problem with defender.

Go to Security and Maintenance, look in 'Security' and see what program is listed under Virus Protection. Windows Defender will not be enabled if there is a program other than Windows Defender listed.

I can't turn on Windows Defender Real Time Protection

We appreciate your response. We suggest that you try to turn on Windows Defender Real Time Protection from a Hidden Administrator account. To enable Hidden Administrator, the following are the steps:

• Right-click on the Start button and select Command Prompt (Admin).
• In the command prompt, type in net user administrator /active:yes and press Enter.
• Log out and log back in using the Administrator account.
