Windows 10: Windows defender - Unexpected error

Hi,


I don't seem to be able to get my Windows Defender to run, keep getting the unexpected error message.

I checked the registry and the group policy, everything is set as it should be. I ran FixWin10 and tried fixing windows defender through that.

The problem started when I had a virus and I installed Emsisoft anti-virus to get rid of it, which it did.

I uninstalled Emsisoft AV now and can't get Windows Defender to run.

Is there a way of re-installing Windows Defender? Any ideas?

• Run a full scan.
• Restart the device and try again.

However, I believe that the actual cause of this error is usually a removal of Defender’s operational data by a third-party registry or system cleaner. I personally witnessed a case of this with Ccleaner and reported it in this thread:

So I’m not sure that the resolution here will actually eliminate the problem.
