    Windows Defender Virus Definition Update Max CPU Usage


    Hello,


    I've seen various threads about this but none updated recently and none that help solve my issue. On numerous workstations within our environment after new definitions get released for Windows Defender something causes the MsMpeng.exe to consume absurd amounts of CPU causing the laptop to grind to a halt. I've had a ticket open with MS for a couple months now and the most I get out of them is to try and exclude this file or that file, which hasn't helped the problem at all. Has anyone found a way to resolve this or had any luck at all in dealing with this? Thank you in advance.

    With your Avast installed the real-time Defender protection is disabled, but it should still be available for an on-demand scan and should have kept its definitions updated.

    You should see definition updates listed in your Update History....

    I just check it and the last update was 1st march 2020.

    I try to run check for updates but there is no update for WD Definition Updates.
