Windows 10: Windows Defender vs Avast Free Antivirus

Before windows defender in Windows 10 there were very few antivirus programs that had "boot-time scans" or offline scans. This was the main reason that I stuck to Avast Free. These days I have noticed that there are increasingly more arguments saying that we don't need a third party antivirus programs anymore. So, I am giving Window Defender a try.

My first test was to download a program that Avast would normally flag as PUP, give a warning and ask to move to quaranteen. I noticed that Windows Defender did NOT flag or warn me at all. Windows Defender also allowed me to install it no problem. In the case of Avast I would have to turn it off to install and then create all sorts of exceptions.

It seems to me that Avast would be more secure for PC? Unless I am missing something?

Protecting the computer (windows defender,avast, etc)?

Agreed with Firefox w/ Adblock Plus and NoScript. I suggest Antivir. Very trustworthy Antivirus and is less resource hogging the avast. Takes up about 40mb with guard enabled and 30mb with guard disabled.

can be done. Windows Defender EG is intended to replace Microsoft’s EMET which was confusing to novice users and allowed hackers to bypass because the mitigations were not durable and often caused operating system and application stability issues as explained

You do not need avast! Antivirus which has been becoming more of a disappointment for the past several years and I no longer recommend it.

• Avast SafeZone browser installed itself...and users are not happy about it
• Avast and AVG Antivirus products collect personal data for selling
  to advertisers

Further, avast! pushes a support package for $180 offered by a third party which prefers to take remote control of your computer in order to fix problems.
