Windows 10: Windows dimming lock screen image with some kind of gray overlay

Hi all,

Hope someone can help with a small annoyance with the lock screen image. It seems Windows is dimming the set image with some kind of gray overlay, making any image on the lock screen noticeably darker. I could not find any controls to modify this behavior. For instance if the lock screen image contains large areas of pure white, it will be rendered as gray.

This is probably already discussed somewhere on this forum but I can't find any info (probably I'm using the wrong keywords?). Anyways, if someone can direct me how to do this (preferably via a registry key) I would really appreciate it.

Lock Screen Image Too Big

• Is this issue occurs only when the pictures are set from OneDrive?

I suggest you to set the picture for the lock screen using the default lock screen pictures and check whether the issue persist or not, follow the below steps to set the pictures.

• Go to “settings” and click on “personalization”.
• Under “lock screen” tab, select the option from the drop box as “picture”.
• Then under “choose your picture” option, click on any picture and go to the lock screen, check whether the issue persists or not.

Lock Screen Image Issue

I would suggest you to set the default pictures as the Lock Screen picture from the PC and check if it works or not.

Follow the steps below:

• In start type "settings" and press enter.
• Select Personalize
• From the left click on "Lock screen"
• Select the default picture and conform by preview.

Lock Screen Dims (Brightness Auto Reduce at Lock Screen)

Hi,

Since you're having an issue with the brightness of your Lock Screen, we suggest uninstalling the display adapter from the Device Manager. Just follow the steps below:

• Press Windows key + X.
• Select Device Manager.
• Locate and expand Display adapter.
• Right-click on the display device and click uninstall.

Note: Please restart your computer after performing the steps above.

If the issue persists, download and install latest display driver from the computer manufacturer's website.
