  1. Windows Direction, CoPilot, AI and Recall

Dear Support, no response to this question is required. I simply want to provide Microsoft with some customer feedback.Like many others you've been hearing from, I intensely dislike the direction MS is going with their new and "improved" features such as CoPilot, CoCreator indeed, ANY AI features built in to the operating system, and Recall.Let's take CoCreator first. This is, at first glance, a neat feature. Input a rough sketch, and the software produces detailed images. For someone who's not a talented artist, this is great. But...what if the intended use is for publication? AI images and

Is it possible to just not have Recall on my computer

Retrace your steps with Recall - Microsoft Support

    System requirements for Recall

Your PC needs the following minimum system requirements for Recall:

    • A Copilot+ PC
    • 16 GB RAM
    • 8 logical processors
    • 256 GB storage capacity
    • To enable Recall, you’ll need at least 50 GB of storage space free
    • Saving screenshots automatically pauses once the device has less than 25 GB of storage space

    Shop Copilot+ PCs | Microsoft

Are the Copilot+ PC experiences available on all Windows 11 PCs?

These features require powerful neural processing units (NPUs)—a specialized computer chip for AI-intensive processes—that are unique to the Copilot+ PC class of devices.

If your PC isn't one of these with an NPU on the Snapdragon® X Series processor, it simply won't run Recall or any of these other Copilot+ PC features, so you don't even have the option to ruse these.

Guess you're badly behind the times for true AI computing, eh?

  3. How do I disable Copilot and all Other AI functionality in Windows 11 HOME edition

I want to fully disable (or preferably remove) Copilot and all other AI functionality in Windows 11 Home Edition. This question may belong under another topic; I just guessed at Settings.

See the bottom of this post for system information. Below are specific questions related to the details of disabling Copilot and AI functionality. I have not been able to find any of this information on any Microsoft resources; perhaps I missed something?.

    • Disabling Copilot in Windows 11 Home Edition: Please note that I am running Windows 11 Home edition - not Pro, Enterprise, etc., where I could solve the problem with group policies or other administrative options. The Windows Update setting "Get the latest updates" is turned on, so I am running Copilot Preview.

    • Copilot Taskbar Button: I have hidden Copilot on the taskbar, but that is obviously not the same as disabling Copilot or other AI functionality.

    • Disabling Copilot via Registry: There are instructions on various websites for disabling Copilot by editing the registry; I would appreciate details about how to do that, as long as the necessary edits are reasonably safe and reliable.

    • Disabling all AI functionality: How centralized is AI functionality in Windows 11? Does disabling Copilot disable AI functionality across all Windows 11 built-in features, as well as Microsoft desktop apps? Or has AI metastasized across the entire Windows ecosystem, requiring a constant game of whack-a-mole to disable everywhere?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    - Laura

  4. Windows Direction, CoPilot, AI and Recall

How to DELETE Recall and ALL AI PERMANENTLY

    Hey Belinda,

I'm Sumit, and I'm here to help you out on the Microsoft Community.

I'm not exactly sure where you came across this, but the Recall feature is actually only for newer Copilot+ PCs announced recently. This feature won't be available for existing retail PCs running on Intel or AMD.

Just to clear things up, even if you do plan on getting a Copilot PC, Microsoft isn't going to force it on you. You'll have the option to toggle it on or off.

    Edit:23/05/24

To help provide you with that "photographic" memory, Windows saves snapshots of your screen periodically. You can quickly search your snapshots to find things on your Copilot+ PC. For example, content you've seen in apps, websites, images, and documents. Recall doesn't record audio or save continuous video.

You're always in control of what's saved as a snapshot. You can disable saving snapshots, pause temporarily, filter applications, and delete your snapshots at any time.

To help maintain your privacy, Recall processes your content locally on the Copilot+ PC and securely stores it on your device. This page will help you understand how you can control your Recall experience.

During setup of your new Copilot+ PC, and for each new user, you're informed about Recall and given the option to manage your Recall and snapshots preferences

You can turn on or off saving snapshots at any time by going to Settings > Privacy & security > Recall & snapshots. You can also pause snapshots temporarily by selecting the Recall icon in the system tray on your PC and selecting the pause option.

We built privacy and security into Recall's design from the ground up. With Copilot+ PCs, you get powerful AI that runs locally on your device. No internet or cloud connections are required or used to save and analyze snapshots. Your snapshots aren't sent to Microsoft. Recall AI processing occurs locally, and your snapshots are securely stored on your local device only.

Snapshots are encrypted by Device Encryption or BitLocker, which are enabled by default on Windows 11. Recall doesn't share snapshots with other users that are signed into Windows on the same device. Microsoft can't access or view the snapshots.
