  1. Windows drive not visible - A bug or a feature that can be turned off?

I'm running a dual-boot Intel NUC system (have Linux-based LibreELEC running via USB flash and Windows 10 Insider Preview running on SSD). Previously I had managed to play videos stored in the Windows SSD drive via LibreELEC/Kodi (I added the Windows location as Video Source). Last week, I noticed that not only had LibreELEC/Kodi lost the video locations but also the Windows drive itself. I do see one partion via LibreELEC but it's not the partition where my user files are. As I haven't changed anything in LibreELEC/Kodi nor the BIOS, the only culprit can be Windows 10 as I had updated at least two new Insider Preview builds before I noticed something was wrong.

Do you have any advise for me? Could this be a Windows build bug or does Windows have a feature which might prevent it from being seen as local drive? I would of course revert back to an older build but, running a smaller SSD, I always erase the previous build after update as I've never ran into any problems with Insider builds (well, maybe until now).

    :)

  2. Can a USB flash drive be formatted as a hard drive disk so its contents will be backed up with windows back up?

Thank you for responding. I am not using the flash drive for backup. I am using Windows 10 backup and want to include the files I have on my micro USB drive. I set up my libraries to save pictures and documents to save them to my USB flash drive which
windows named D: USB drive. I back up to a portable USB hard drive. I set up backup to include the D: drive but when backup completes it says it did not back up D: because it is an invalid drive. Thank you.

  3. Can a USB flash drive be formatted as a hard drive disk so its contents will be backed up with windows back up?

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I understand the inconvenience caused. I will be glad to assist you with this.

To better assist you, please answer the following questions:

    1. How exactly are you trying to backup the files?

    2. Are you trying to use the USB flash drive as the backup location?

If so, please be informed that you do have the option to choose the USB flash drive as the backup folder or location. Also you will have to format the flash drive in NTFS format for Windows to be able to use the flash drive as a back up drive.

For more information on Backing up files, I would suggest you to refer the help article below and check if it helps.

Back up and restore your files

Windows drive not visible - A bug or a feature that can be turned off?

Windows updates in general (big ones, that is, like going from 1507 to 1511 or 1511 to 1607, or from one new Insider update to another when the primary build number changes) will reset associations, preferences, and so forth to defaults. You probably just lost your config data when you made those updates. Example: I like to use Restore Points, but every major update turns them off. So I've learned to remember to turn them back on as part of the "moving forward from a new major update" drill. I have to imagine it's the same for your video stuff. You can either write a script or batch file to automate this process, or simply remember to do it by hand after each major update. Hopefully, MS will change this behavior in the future (they've certainly gotten plenty of requests to do so in the Insider Program) but until they acquiese, this is what we have to do...
