Windows 10: Windows DVD Player can't open

Discus and support Windows DVD Player can't open in Windows 10 Drivers and Hardware to solve the problem; The free media player has stopped working. The icon is greyed out.     The free media player has stopped working. The icon is greyed out. Has anyone else had this issue and if so what was the fix? It was working fine before. *Sad

    how do i open my dvd player

    when i got my acer laptop my dvd player din't open it did not have a botton and i can't puss the dvd player please help me open my dvd player

    Where does Windows install Windows DVD Player? I want to associate .vob files by default with Windows DVD Player, but I can't find the Windows DVD Player exe-file, not in Program Files and not in Windows. Now I have to open Windows DVD Player each time
    I insert a DVD and open the menu vob-file. NOTE: I DO have Windows DVD Player installed on my PC in Windows 10 and it's in my Start Menu, so please don't tell me Windows DVD Player is not by default in Windows 10, I upgraded from Windows 7
    and have the good ol' player still working.

    What is a " free media player " ?

    Was it a 3rd party media player you installed from the web ? If so, what is the name ?

    Was it the Windows 10 own built-in Windows Media Player you were referring to ?

    It's the Windows DVD Player App that installed when I upgraded from 7 to 10.

    To be eligible for the free DVD Player app, you must upgrade your Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 8.1 PC rather than perform a clean installation. If you’re running an edition of Windows 7 or Windows 8 that doesn’t include Media Center and you upgrade to Windows 10, go to Windows Store to buy Windows DVD Player or another app that plays DVDs. Provided your PC has an optical disc drive, Windows DVD Player will play DVD movies (but not Blu‑ray Discs).

    Windows DVD Player can't open

    I upgraded about 1 yr ago from 7 to 10. I had the Media Center. The Windows DVD player was working fine till the other day.

    Try this. No guarantees.

    Run a system restore. Pick a date when you did NOT have this problem as your restore point.

    Ran the system restore and the Windows DVD Player App worked. Then Tuesday's updates ran again. The Windows DVD Player App appeared to be ok till I went to a local user, it turned gray and would not connect. I then decided to go back to the previous restore point and the app worked for all users no problem. I am in the process of running Tuesday's updates again but I am hiding Windows Update KB3152599 and KB3156421. Solved the issue.*Sad
