Windows.edb constantly filling C drive despite repeated index rebuilds

The OS is W10Pro 22H2 build 19045.41232. While Sabya's helpful advice solves the issue for one day, a few days later the issue is back. How do I resolve this? In addition, Tree Size Free reports the 106GB HDD at 137GB capacity: While Win10 Settings shows different storage info: Weekly/monthly maintenance includes Win Disk Clean-up, Optimise & Defrag plus CCleaner, PatchCleaner and Dell SupportAssist. Pooled storage is operating with an external Dell 1TB SSD. Many thanks for any advice and assistance that you can offer.

    :)

  2. EDB index search database file -- can I locate on a removable hard drive?

I just indexed a 2 TB USB-attached, external hard drive on my Windows 10 Enterprise laptop. The indexing was added to the *.edb file located in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Search\Data\Applications. The process increased the size of the "Windows.edb" file by
about 4 GB. There is lots of room on the external hard drive, but not much less free space on my C: drive, which is a 300GB SSD. Is there any way to put the indexing info on the drive that is being indexed? I.e. the *.edb file containing indexing info for
Drive C: would be located on Drive C:, while the indexing info for Drive D: would be located on Drive D:.

The benefits of this approach would include:

    * better use of limited SSD hard drive space

    * "portable" index-based searching, e.g. if I plugged the removable drive into another system

    Thanks

  3. Indexing Won't Rebuild

Hi ShiraAbraham, Here are some troubleshooting steps to help you, please let me know if you have tried this already

-Press Windows key + I and open Update & Security.

-Select Troubleshoot and find Search and Indexing.

-Double-click on the Search and Indexing Troubleshooter to run it.

Wait for the scan to be completed.

If these steps did not help to fix “Search Indexing Was Turned Off” error, our last recommendation would be to rebuild the Search Indexing:

-Open Windows Search and type Indexing Options.

-Click on the first matching option to open it.

-Click Advanced and open Advanced Options.

-Select Rebuild and white while indexing will be rebuild from scratch.

Windows not indexing the C drive

Disable the search indexer or remove the C: drive from indexing > restart > see if the issues continues to happen. Otherwise, if you want to keep the search indexes enabled, rebuild search indexes from Indexing Options.
