  2. Windows Explorer high CPU Usage in Windows 10

    Hi Andrew,

Usually, too many background processes can boost your CPU usage. Since you already disabled the apps that are not necessary on startup,
we suggest checking the applications running once you have successfully boot Windows 10. To do this, simply follow the steps below:

    • Click on the Start button and type Task Manager on the search box.
    • On the Task Manager window, you should see the programs running.
    • Click on the More details drop-down button to see the total number of apps running and their real-time CPU usage.

From there, you should see what applications are running on high CPU usage. You can also
restart the Windows Management Instrumentation service and see if your CPU performance will improve. Follow the instructions below to restart the service:

    • Click on the Start button and type Services.
    • Scroll down the list and look for Windows Management Instrumentation.
    • Right click on it and select Restart.

Should you have further questions, please let us know.

  3. excessive cpu usage

When I use Microsoft solitaire the cpu usage rapidly ramps up to as high as 80% causing the fan to absolutely race. This is new ion the last few days. Nothing else seems to cause this. Any suggestions?

    File Explorer Excessive CPU

    Been thru:

    • Clean Boot
    • Safe Mode
    • SFC
    • DISM scan health
    • Dism Restore health
    • Process Explorer
In the past, only ISO install repair worked. But eventually the issue reappears. I am sure that if I do another Install repair using the ISO, the problem will go away.

Rather than waste my time doing install repairs, I can live with either of the following:

    • Use a third party file explorer (biggest issue with this is that Windows 10 does not allow me to set a default file explorer - so eventually some process will start Windows file explorer and the CPU usage climbs)
    • When I first log in to Windows, start file explorer, wait 45 minutes for the three offending processed to stop running and never close file explorer. (This is the solution I can live with)
Doing an internet search tells me I am not the only one having this problem and since I have it on 2 of 3 laptops but have a workaround, this issue can be closed.
