Windows 10: windows Explorer Freezing

For about 2-3 months, my windows explorer has been freezing up. It happens when I attempt to move it across multiple screens or if I use the windows button to maximize or half-size it. It doesn't always happen, and it seems like it happens more often when I move it quickly, as opposed to slowly.


When it freezes, it will reduce to a small window and flash very quickly. I can't resize it, close it, or select files within it. If I right click the program from the task bar and close it, it closes all my instances of windows explorer. Another way to handle it is to open the task manager, where it indicates it is not responding, so I end the task.


I have managed to work with it for while, but it dramatically reduces productivity and is frustrating. I've searched online for others with a similar problem and I'm not sure which fix to try and what are possibly ads for various software tools.

are you running IE7? if not that wouold be my first suggestion,upgrade to ie7 that can fix some stability issues with windows explorer

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows Explorer freeze
