Windows 10: Windows Explorer & taskbar crashes

Hi, after updating my Windows to the latest version, my taskbar & explorer frequently crash. After this they cannot be restarted in the taskmanager. If the machine is restarted, it works fine for 15 - 20 min before the explorer / taskbar crashes again. After many different attempts DISM / SFC commands etc I even reinstalled Windows first keeping the current data & apps and as this did not do the job I reset everything. After resetting everything the issue was gone until I updated to the latest Windows version. As I do not have any other ideas, I'm looking forward to yours : Thanks

Cannot launch File Explorer from taskbar in Windows 10

I suggest you to follow the steps below and check if it helps.

• First unpin the File Explorer from the task bar.
• Press Windows + E.
• And right click on File Explorer in the taskbar.
• And Pin the File Explorer to Taskbar and Check if it helps.

Windows explorer crashing

Hi,

I am having the same problem as the OP in this thread.
Windows Explorer crashes whenever I open my external HDD or thumb drive in explorer..

I have tried the fixes listed in the above thread and I am getting the same error message as 'ktadie' (post 16). I think this is because I am running Windows 7 Professional. Windows explorer crashes when I open my 'Films' folder on my brand new 2tb external HDD. I have about 300 .avi files in this folder and some of the .avi files are several years old.

In short I believe I need the same fix given by 'Wile E' (post 7) but updated for Windows 7 Professional.

• Right-click File Explorer.
• Choose Pin to taskbar.
