Windows 10: Windows fails to detect drives after upgrade to 24h2

Hello everyone.Yesterday I started the upgrade process from 23h2 to 24h2 on my System.Besides my main NVMe drive, I have 2 Barracuda HDDs in my system, one being 4TB and the other 8TB, with most of my User folders residing on the 4 TB one Desktop, Downloads and Documents.After the installation of 24h2 completed and the system restarted, i sat on the welcome screen for quite a while until i get to a completely blank desktop with an error message saying something like "Location is not available, E:\Users\<username>\Desktop can not be found or is unavailable."Checking in the explorer and

Internal hard drive not getting detected after upgrading the computer to Windows 10

I understand that after upgrading your computer to Windows 10, the 8TB internal hard drive is not getting detected. I’ll certainly help you with the issue.



However, please let us know:

• How did you upgrade the computer to Windows 10?
  
• Are you able to see the hard drive in BIOS?
  
• Are you using a Desktop or a Laptop?
  
• What is the make and model of the computer you are using?
  

I would suggest you to check if the hard drive is being detected in BIOS. If the hard drive is not being detected in BIOS, then it could be a connectivity issue between the hard drive and the motherboard.



However, if the hard drive is getting detected in BIOS, I would suggest you to try updating the storage drivers from the computer manufacturer’s website and see if that helps.

There are no currently listed problems resetting version 24H2 of Windows 11 and no specific steps you need to perform, are you experiencing any problems with that insider build that is causing you to perform a Windows reset?

Well, I'm sorry to hear that it's a WD My Passport that failed on you, @tomhenry ! *Frown
I'd recommend you to try using a different USB cable with it and see if that will help your system to detect it without it disconnecting.
I'd also suggest you to go to Disk Management and see how the drive is listed there. It won't hurt to check up on the health and SMART status of the HDD by running the QUICK and EXTENDED tests from the WD's Data LifeGuard Diagnostics.
